Rookie defensive tackle Trey Lewis, a sixth round pick from tiny Washburn, will make his first career start against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
"It's kind of big switch since last week I was inactive," Lewis said after practice on Thursday. "It goes to show you that you've just got to be ready. I've been practicing real hard so I'm ready to take the challenge."
Lewis, 6-3, 317-pounds, had three tackles against Minnesota and two tackles and a sack in a reserve role against Jacksonville.
"I like the idea," Lewis said. "I thought I played well in the first game. I'm excited to get more reps and see what else I can do."
He was inactive for the Carolina game.
"We felt like we needed an extra defensive end," Falcons coach Bobby Petrino said. "Between [Lewis] and Montavious, we decided to keep Montavious in there for the run game."
