Q. What about the way your defense has played and kept teams out of the end zone?
A. We're not nearly as good as I want to be, but the guys are playing hard and they are understanding what we are trying to do. When I talk to them about adjustments or the way we play a certain thing, it seems to be easier now because of the terminology we've been using since minicamp.
Q. Since you decided to put Trey Lewis in at nose tackle after releasing Grady Jackson have you noticed any difference?
A. When we decided to go with that, there was a whole bunch of resistance. I told them, look, I have a vision for what I want this defense to look like. I have a vision for what I want the players to do. How we want to play. How we understand our role in everything going on. It's not only my vision but Coach [Bobby] Petrino's and what we're looking for in the kind of players we have, the kind of play that we have, attitude, all those things. Maybe once they understood that this is the way it's going to be, this is what they want done, this is what they want to accomplish, this is what they're looking for. Maybe it kind of made them say we understand what this guy wants, what the head coach wants.
Q. How has Jamaal Anderson been?
A. He does some things that don't get noticed and he's doing them very well. Unfortunately, the things that get noticed, he's not doing well. I'm talking about sacks and pressure in passing situations. He hasn't generated enough. Saying that, most defensive linemen from my experience that have been drafted, high tend to take a little longer to develop than corners or linebackers because things happen so fast for them and the guys they were beating all the time in college, they're not playing against right now..
