urther emphasizing new coach Mike Smith's philosophy on being a smash-mouth offensive football team, the Falcons hired former Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey as their new offensive coordinator Friday evening.
Mularkey, who earned his reputation as an innovative offensive coach while Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator from 2000-03, recently was fired by the Dolphins, where he coached tight ends. Mularkey was Miami's offensive coordinator under former coach Nick Saban, but he was reassigned when Cam Cameron took over as head coach and play-caller in 2007.
Cameron, Mularkey and Miami's staff was fired after the season.
This is not Atlanta's first pass at Mularkey. Former coach Jim Mora considered hiring Mularkey as quarterbacks coach before the 2006 season
