Can someone explain to me why the Falcons cut Alge Crumpler? I have always heard that he's a leader and he conveys positivity to the team.

His knees and other areas of his body.

The Atlanta Falcons released four-time Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler and six other players Friday in the first step of a major rebuilding job in the post-Michael Vick era.

The Falcons also cut quarterback Byron Leftwich, defensive tackle Rod Coleman, offensive tackle Wayne Gandy, cornerback Lewis Sanders, wide receiver Jamin Elliott and linebacker Marcus Wilkins.

"This is a difficult day for the entire organization," said Thomas Dimitroff, the Falcons' new general manager. "A number of these players have contributed to this organization on and off the field at a high level, and we greatly appreciate their efforts."

So, what do you folks think Crumpler has left? I ask as a fan of a team that (1) has anointed Jim Mora Jr. the next head coach, (2) badly needs a tight end, (3) used to employ Alge's big brother Carlester, and (4) has ex-Falcon Patrick Kerney doing some recruiting. So naturally I'm intrigued. Even if he isn't what he used to be, do you think he remains a quality tight end?

I think he's got plenty left in the tank if the price is right.

Crumpler would be a great addition to any team focused on winning now like Seattle. He is one of my all time favorite Falcons, it's a shame he had to go out this way. I really hope he's able to stay relatively healthy.
