The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement in principle with the Oakland Raiders to trade cornerback DeAngelo Hall for the Raiders' second-round pick in the 2008 draft, pending the Raiders finalizing a contract with Hall, a source close to the Falcons told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

While a Raiders source said Hall and the team are nearing an agreement on a contract, the source close to Hall said there is "still a lot of work to get it done."

The Raiders source said the deal is expected to pay Hall just below what Asante Samuel signed with the Eagles. Samuel signed a six-year deal worth a reported $57 million, with
$20 million guaranteed.

Some are saying Hall denied the trade.

IF THIS IS TRUE.... i (would) hate this move!!!

as bad as the Falcons' pass defense is, i don't see any reason to trade the team's best DB.

Falcons are not getting enough in return.

i don't see any reason why not to trade Hall for a mid first round pick, to any team in need for a CB, and draft Rodgers-Cromartie.

and if this is true, then i guess Dorsey is going to be the #3 overall pick

and FYI, if you haven't noticed, most star defensive players have mouths on them, Ray Lewis, Merriman, Sapp, Deion, etc.

Hall needs to be traded. If a team has a chance on RC, why not draft him instead of paying for Hall and be forced to pay him next year? Hall has said he wants to be paid, and I for one do not want the Falcons to pay him as much money as he wants. He won't net us a mid first because of his contract situation. He wants to go to a winning team so that limits the number of teams who would trade for him. Then you have to take in the fact that he is going to want to get paid a lot of money, which further limits the number of teams willing to trade for him.

I don't think he'll be part of our long term plan, so we mine as well unload him.

I love his talent and don't necessarily want him gone, but we are rebuilding.

I'd like to see us receive more because I really feel a 2nd round pick doesn't fully cut it. Maybe a later round pick would have made me feel better about the trade.

It really depends on how the player does that we use the pick on to gauge if we are gaining value here or not. That type of investment will take sometime.

I'm going to miss Hall. I'm not sure who wins the jersey battle between Keith Brooking and Hall, but it's close, and I give Hall the advantage. Outside of Vick it's probably been the biggest sale.

I'm pretty sure we'll pass on Ryan at 3 now. Maybe move back up into the first to nab Henne or Brohm.

Draft is going to be exciting though.

New contract for cornerback almost finalized

As far as the teams are concerned, a deal is already in place. The Raiders will send a second-round selection (34th overall) and sixth-round pick to Atlanta in exchange for Hall.

David Irons, Chris Houston and Jimmy Williams doesn't exactly make me feel any better about the upcoming season. I'm already expecting us to have the first overall pick next year.
