The Falcons are reportedly interested in trading for Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez.
The National Football Post's Michael Lombardi says the Falcons are "seriously considering" the option, with their second-round pick as bait. Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt is attached to his franchise icon, but he might be convinced to part ways as the team rebuilds. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/200 ... y-edition/

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that there's an "80-85 percent chance" that Tony Gonzalez will be dealt to the Falcons this offseason.
Lombardi says Gonzo has already cleared his Chiefs locker in anticipation of a deal. The Chiefs lost their second-round pick in February's Matt Cassel trade and are reportedly willing to send Gonzalez to Atlanta for the No. 55 overall pick. Gonzo recently turned 33, but obviously can still play. He caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards (11.0 YPC) and 10 touchdowns in 2008. rotoworld.com

Contract: $17.75 million guaranteed. 2009: $4 million, 2010: $4.5 million, 2011: $5.75 million, 2012: Free Agent. Cap charges: $6.5 million (2009), $7 million (2010), $8.25 million (2011).

After further thought, I'd really not want to give up pick 55 for Tony.

I'd feel much better about a 3rd.

I'd also feel better about it if it was a 3rd. Even if it's the 2nd I will get it over it and be perfectly fine.

Report: Chiefs Reject Falcons Offer for Gonzalez

Frank Boal of FOX4 in Kansas City is reporting the Kansas City Chiefs have rejected a trade offer from the Atlanta Falcons for tight end Tony Gonzalez. The offer was for the Falcons' 55th overall pick according to Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post.

*Boal rarely breaks news about the Chiefs and the rest of the mainstream media hasn't picked up on this yet so we're certainly going to continue following this story until we can get another confirmation.

Rumors have been swirling that the Chiefs were nearing a deal with someone to move Gonzalez. The basis of some of these rumors? Gonzalez cleaning out his locker.

We'll never know if the future Hall of Fame tight end was simply cleaning out his locker before the start of the Chiefs first veteran mandatory mini-camp on April 17th or if he removed his belongings with the intention that he wouldn't be back.

If the GM Scott Pioli values Gonzalez more than the Falcons' second round pick then it's unlikely any team in the NFL will match his price. The overlord of the previous Chiefs regime, Carl Peterson, reportedly pushed his asking price from a third to a second and fifth round pick at the trading deadline last year.

We can debate about Gonzalez's worth all day long but he's worth whatever any team will offer him. If the offers that came in last season (Eagles' 3rd, Giants' 6th) are any indication, Tony Gonzalez will not be traded by the Chiefs this season. http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2009/4/13 ... -offer-for

If they wouldn't accept our 2nd rounder (which was potentially too much anyway), they can keep him.

Video:

Chiefs beat reporter Adam Teicher says the Chiefs are in no position not to at least consider any offers they get for Tony Gonzalez. But Atlanta probably isn't the place for Gonzalez if he's serious about going to a playoff contender.

Ouch.

We may be looking at Cook w/ 55 anyway.

2nd round is kind of high..... 4th round seems fair for a player who is so old and for an offense that didn't really have a problem with 3rd down completitions and red zone.

We just got Tony Gonzalez for next year's 2nd rounder.

Great, great trade.

Falcons offense just got a big upgrade, and Ryan and our young receivers will gain tremendously by having a guy like Gonzalez in the huddle and on the practice field.

Plus, we keep our picks this year and can go after some defensive players. This is a very win-win situation for the Falcons and I'm definitely excited about it.

We should theoretically have one of the top offenses this coming season.

I'm very excited about this trade and even more so since it's a 2nd next year. As long as the offense can stay healthy we improve greatly, so now it's time to focus on defense this weekend, and hopefully TD makes the right decisions.

I think so to, but considering it's next year, and we're getting picks back next year anyway it should be alright 8-)

Exactly. We should be just fine.

It was worth making the trade for. Even after Gonzalez eventually retires, Ryan and the receivers will have picked up a lot from just having him there in the locker and in the huddle.
