TJD is one of the Warriors' more valuable trade assets - a rotational big who can even start, small contract (average value under $2 mil per year!), locked up until the summer of 2027. This is a valuable asset in the second apron era.

Anyone can (even) start if you don’t care about the results

He is clear no.1 now.

The op of those stats mentioned that the Warriors are last in the league at lay ups strictly because of tjd. We don't have a team lay up problem, we have a tjd one.

To clarify what 51.8 means:

it means if he shot league average on his all his different layup types, he'd score 51.8 more points.

Basically points below what the average player would score on all his attempts.

Offensively, hes useless unless it's an alley oop.

Tjd isn’t the only warrior on this list. There’s actually multiple people that are missing layups at a below avg rate that is not shown on this list either.
Most 4th Quarter Points in Final since 1991
1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5 (61.1% TS)
2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3 (68.0% TS)

This whole situation is so bizarre. Because while this is clearly bad, he's still shooting nearly 60% on the year, and it isn't like he's draining outside jumpers. If he could make a layup, what would his FG% be? Would he be shooting like 80% on the year?

51.8 pts in 37 games so he was supposed to score extra 1.4 pts per game. So in 4 games he could make 3 more layups. Well, he gets 2 offensive rebounds per game so he gets the ball back on of his misses, so the difference is even smaller, maybe 1 point per game.
At 6-9 he is the smallest center in the league. Age of 24. He is #25 (among qualifiers) in the NBA in 2P%...
For sure he can improve. I am disappointed with his speed up and down the court but words as "useless", "laugh" etc. what?!
All that "advanced" statistics section is an empty calories babbling.
I should be on Lacob payroll...

I think the implied context is contested shots, and that can be subjective as hell. Mainly because most layups/dunks have at least one defender inside a 1-2 ft, so cant use distance as a qualifier. It also would be subjective to determine if something is well defended on a dunk/layup, because the ones for jumpers are also based on distance as well as whether a hand was up in the shooter's area

Overall the point is that TJD's best skill is considered to be his finishing, but really its just that he can finish easy layups/dunks that are handed to him. When put up against Looney's or Dray's finishing, looks a lot better

Just doesnt bring much to the team.. he's a fine enough backup C. And still a good hit considering where he was drafted. But IMO we've seen enough of him and not enough of Post, who might be able to bring something more impactful to the team

All that said, his defense is ever so slightly trending up lately. Positionally still below average but his deflection/passing lane work has been better

TJD is a great 57 pick. GSW doesn't need to ditch TDJ. They need to add some top 15 picks to this team.
