And if JK knows where and when the lane is going to open up, he'll be prepared to attack it (or not if it's not there), instead of freelancing drives as he does now.

Honestly, watching the Warriors I just don't get there's any sense of urgency whatsoever. You know, it's possible they don't even make the playoffs. And it's also possible they could finish as a very high seed. It's THAT close. And yet, watching, it feels almost like these are preseason games. Who can ever forget that quote from Steve Kerr? "We're not chasing wins." While it's true we don't know the full details of injured guys not playing, you do wonder what goes into the decision not to play Curry tonight against the Heat. We heard all the tests came back negative and its an issue of soreness. Why did he even travel with the team? To watch from the bench?

And also, there's an issue when guys do play. Jimmy Butler played 29 minutes in a game the Warriors desperately needed. 29 minutes? Granted, he didn't play late, but at half time, he only had 15 minutes. And even now, when Curry is on the floor, a heavy night for him is 36 minutes. It's still typically 32, 34 minutes. And Draymond usually plays a few minutes less than that.

I check other teams fighting for their playoff lives and am amazed how desperate they seem, how many minutes guys OLDER than Curry are playing. Kevin Durant recently played 45 minutes in an over-time game. He typically plays 36-40 minutes every night out on the floor. Even Lebron (who's 40) plays considerably more minutes than Curry, Butler, and Draymond. Sure, I get you don't want to run these guys into the ground. It's a long season. But now the season is short, every game matters. Can't you play the starters more and the bench less? Curry & Butler have actually not played a lot together with the staggering Kerr has devised. I get why he's done that, but if you could figure out the key 5-8 players and play them most of the game, you might get better results. I've noticed even Boston with their deep bench and great record often only play 8 players.

As a fan, you just have to let it go and realize they're content with not being as competitive as other organizations, whatever their reasons.

We all realize the only reason they even made the Butler trade was because they were floundering so badly, right? You know a roster is severely flawed when even Steph Curry isn't enough to make them respectable. There was absolutely another trade (or two) that needed to be made at the deadline -- unless, of course, you're "not chasing wins."

Take it all with a grain of salt. You shouldn't care more than they do. Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone (thank you, John Cougar).

perhaps if he was able to hit the 3 ball more consistently or to make a dribble&shoot for a change or to have a decent post-up game it would be easier for him to have an impact on offense.... 4 years in the league and the thing he's best at is going downhill and extending for a lay-in (if there's no big man patrolling the paint). hold on, he also needs some screening combos in order to efficiently do that.

Butler didn't bring extra effort to try to carry the team, but Spoelstra and Thibodeau are two coaches who know coached Butler multiple years and knows how he wants to play and what to take away from him but still, more effort from him to overcome that when the rest of the team was struggling was needed.

Miami hit 68% of their 3s (17 of 25), they scored 51 points on 25 3s attempted which is odd since Kerr tried to take away their 3s (and did, they only got 25 off) by deciding to go with GPII as a starter vs Post which I think was probably a bad idea. In the playoffs last year, Miami got hot enough from 3pt range to take a game from Boston in the 1st round of the playoffs.

The team hasn't looked well running the offense in its last 2 games, you can still run the plays correctly and set solid picks, but I don't see many good picks being thrown which allows a lot of defenders easily able to stay with their man leading to players holding onto the ball looking to make a pass that isn't there then putting up a bad shot. Curry's been setting better picks lately than a lot of players the last 2 games.

Butler was a major cog to add in the middle of the season and early on with Butler the rotation was pretty tight, certain people were coming in at nearly the same time of the game and there was a flow, now there's no telling who is going to be on the floor together. Personally, I think Kerr should be starting Post and giving Santos 20 minutes a night off the bench. Both have size and can shoot the 3 but with Kuminga I guess there's not the minutes, but I think Post and Santos are very much needed in this rotation. I have no idea what's going to happen with Kuminga with his decision making on the court, it's like he has what he's going to do already made up in his mind before he touches the ball with little to no consideration what the defense does which his athletic ability and size sometimes allows him to get away with bad decisions.

the lack of urgency has often been the trademark of the warriors under kerr so the "limited" starters minutes. nothing new under the sun.

People wanting more from JK is a little funny to me....the guy is in his 4th season and has never had a consistent roll or played consistent minutes.

The same goes for Moody until the last 20 or so games.

Expecting young players to be more developed while not being allowed to develop is silly.

Moody seems to be basically a 3&d guy who can also finds cracks in the defense to make himself available for a pass, once he starts trying to make plays things go bad and the same goes for Hield, once he starts doing more than catch and shooting things go bad. Both limited but can be solid role players.

Players can develop outside of games, but you have to work on the right things and of course, put in a lot of work. It took Herro 6 years before he finally figured things out, he's a hard worker and he was handed all the shots he wanted in Miami for 3 of those first 5 years. He didn't move forward as a player until he changed how he played. Developing as a player is way more than just getting more time in games, it's on the player to become better, that's why the top players usually have an incredible drive to get better. There are late bloomers, but really good players basically force the coach to play because of their play.

Alec Burks, why? Quite simply he knows his role and doesn't really deviate from it, catch and shoot, you don't see him trying to create much at all. Burks was out there for the minimum last summer while just coming off having some big games in the playoffs too. M.Beasley is another player that's been a good c&s 3pt shooter that has been getting signed on very low contracts for his production (6 mil this year).

I think it's well worth paying multiple low-priced snipers and try to get them to work in your system. Hield may end up working out, GS just has to get him in situations where he's just a catch and shoot guy.

We had Burks here, he wasn't good here. I mean if he shoots like he did last night sure but that's not who he is.

Wasn't that the dLO led Warriors' season?

Nothing about that season went well except for the trade that landed Wiggins.

Steph makes the floor wider so more cuts are available. In this game was the lack of tall athletic frontcourt scoring options so obvious. Adebayo and Ware were the difference makers. TJD should get a role back. I would like to see him with Butler on the court.
I should be on Lacob payroll...

If I had to guess, I think Jimmy probably when overboard in trying to show Miami he didn't care about what they thought by dogging (not dawging) this game. What says to Pat Riley that he doesn't matter.....Jimmy playing his ass off or playing like the game meant nothing?

A bounce from the play-in could take a great story and make it a Jimmy Butler nightmare. That's how close Dunleavy is from either being a genius or complete loser :(

There are the few, exceptional, talents that will transcend situations and shine (doesn't always mean the team does well, e.g. Charlotte). Wiseman, JK, and Moody are not those few. In fact, all three are rhythm players than need(ed) a consistent role to develop confidence, to stop thinking, and play on feel. Wiseman go the time but the injuries prevented him from ever getting close (he may never have gotten there, even without the injuries). JK and Moody both show they play better when the roles expand but, too often, those roles expand because the team is struggling and/or injured so we don't see those two shine while the team is excelling. The only exception is the last month or so for moody and a few stretches for JK last year and the year before when Wigs was out. They need larger, more consistent roles, but it's clear they've not done the things Podz has to earn those roles. Neither may ever get that chance this year or with the warriors, in general.

Curry did not feel quite right yet so he didn't play. Probably learned something from the Nuggets game. They probably weren't going to win this one even with Curry back.

and where is mentioned this? there was no mention of what to do with him in the offseason. let's stick to the subject.
what could they do to make him useful? play GPII and santos instead.
and they don't need contributions from everyone, they actually need to start tightening the rotations.
steph, moody, butler, dray, post, podz, hield, GPII, santos and looney. that's your best rotation and they are already probably too many .

Jimmy s honeymoon is over, get ready for the play-in and single game elimination.

Return to Golden State Warriors
