I guess they can have an agreement for a new contract, but it can't be officially signed until after the July Moratorium. Or maybe it can. I don't remember.

Weird topic. He could only be extended last off-season, once the season started they couldn't extend him at all, and he becomes an RFA on July 1 (assuming they tender him a QO.) Then they keep him only if they sign him to a new contract as a FA, match an offer from another team, or he accepts the QO.

OK - so the short answer is that it's fake news -- they can only extend him after July 1... Thanks -- I was confused -- and people online are posting fake stories. What a surprise.
