With out roster..
Kumming>Wiggins

These numbers also say Buddy>Kuminga>Moody>Podz>Wiggins>Jimmy ...

What this really tells me is that with Dray and Steph, we should have been playing buddy/JK/moody. It seems rather obvious and should have been the starting 5 when Melton got hurt. I'd be willing to bet this lineup got <100 possessions, all season.

Just looked it up, that 5 man unit was a +26.8 according to cleaning the glass (so no garbage time to skew the stats).

140 Ortg vs 113 Drtg.

Sounds amazing, right? Our best two players, our two young talents, and the best shooter on the team that's not steph. Clearly, that should be one of the most used lineups on the team, at least until the butler trade. Right? RIGHT?!?!?!?!!? RIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!????

NOPE. 42 total possessions. ALL SEASON. FORTY FUUCCKKKKING TWO!

Rather than monk?

I think trading jk for monk is a sell low move but why Keon? We already had an amazing defense post Jimmy trade, but had real trouble scoring and creating in one v one situations. Monk seems like a good fit next to steph, lead the 2nd unit, and close games when the situation calls for it. In a vacuum, Keon is a good player on a good contract. For this roster, I don't think he makes a huge impact despite instantly becoming our best guard defender.

So he instantly becomes our best POA defender and easily 3rd best 3pt shooter. He shot over 40% the last two seasons. Yeah, we definitely don't need that.

Meanwhile Malik Monk shot 32.5% on 3s last season. Gross. He' s a losing player with a sub-zero DARKO for his career. Meanwhile Keon Ellis is younger and his DARKO has just gotten progressively better year after year. He's so obviously a better player and value proposition. That's why the Kings would love to offload Monk and will protect Keon.

Come on, I didn't say "we definitely don't need that"...

Over 40% the last two seasons? Seriously? I guess i was less familiar with his game than I thought. The shot always looked slow and funky to me, but can't really argue with 40%. 500 total attempts over two seasons (~140 games) isn't a ton of volume but it's enough to make me rethink the take. Considering his contract is 15M less than Monk's and would allow us another move, I'll agree he's a better value than Monk. I didn't realize he shot that well and made so little $$.

That said, I do think we need more ball-handling and creation than ellis can bring while I do think he's a bit duplicative of moody. I would easily trade moody to the kings for ellis and throw in a future protected first to get it done. He's an expiring and with his salary so low, it'll be tough to retain him so I doubt the cost is super high. I'm sure they'd want to extend but with his current salary, they can't give him much before free agency. Still, I think Monk would help a ton. We need another lead guard, someone to handle the ball, take tough shots, beat defenders 1v1, etc. Essentially be what the FO thinks Podz is, already.

You also put a ton of stock in DARKO and other advanced metrics. I have far less patience for things that try to do a 'catch-all' rating as opposed to far more specific tracking/metrics.

How about Moody, Podz, and filler for Monk and Ellis? I'm sure we can come up with 21M without touching JK or Dray. All of a sudden, we'd have Steph, Ellis, Jimmy, JK, Dray, Monk, Post and buddy as the top 8. That's a lot of shooting and way more shot creation than we're used to. Sign Horford and a backup pg, and we're off to the races.

Last thing, you are a great poster with awesome data and good takes. It's just so much easier to foster constructive dialogue when you're less dismissive and just.. nicer.

All players nrtg with Curry/Green on the floor (minimum 200min) In last two seasons

Wiggs 1418min +7.16
Podz 991min +7.25
Kuminga 901min +11.12
Moody 838min +9.80
Klay 720min +2.99
Payton 518min +5.29
Hield 460min +12.05
Butler 454min +6.31
Davis 445nin +4.20
Looney 298min -7.97
Post 190min -4.00

48 - is possesions number which Kerr gave to Curry (usg 35.2)/Green/Kuminga (usg 22.4)/Butler unit to mesh after Kuminga comeback. These 48 possesions where in 5 different games (LAL, DEN, SAC, NOL, SAN) with 4 different players (Moody, Payton, Podz, Hiled). This is around 10 poss in one game!!!

By Kerr it didnt work! How da f... you give 48 pos to a player (after injury) to mesh with new unit, who had the best nrtg with Green/Curry in two years?

So based on these numbers what do you think you think this means?

Kuminga is great fit to Curry/Green duo. Nothing more nothing less.
