(a lil too big, but shows some basic ideas)

The idea of a GSW/MIN trade has been talked about a bit on our forum and on the trade forum. Gomes and Smith would be available for you. I like both guys, but with MN rebuilding and GSW in the playoff run those guys carry alot more value for you. I would be excited to see the muscle they bring to your team.

So it would be
Belinelli
perovic
O'Bryant
1st (what kind of protection would you want)

for

C.Smith
R.Gomes
G.Green
M.Doleac
(all expiring contracts and at least 2 of those guys are very good)

What do you think?

Just an FYI here:

Golden State Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +25.2 ppg, +12.6 rpg, and +2.6 apg.

Regarding Craig Smith: I'm told he dropped 20 pounds, so instead of playing at 270, he's playing at 250. He was phenomenally quick at 270, and could always get his shots off against taller defenders. He's received inconsistent playing time, but has had two games of 30 or more. That said, he's only like 6'7-6'8" and needs to be on the floor with a good defensive C. He uses his strength well, but he's too short to defend big PF's.

Regarding Ryan Gomes: I know that posters don't always correlate with head offices, but we've received several requests for Gomes that contained protected 1sts, namely MIL, ORL, NOR and some of the best contenders (with lower pick values). I think depending on the situation, a late first for Gomes is fair. He's pretty experienced (started over 100 games), can score inside or outside, and is smart and strong. I agree though that he might just be a rotation player for you.

That's pretty irrelevant. You could try making a similar offer that involved Oden, and make the same argument. Not that any of our guys approaches Oden, but when the deal involves trading nothing but young, unproven talent, and a first round pick no less, you don't make much of a point by noting that we'd be getting back a positive stat breakdown.

One last comment .. the last person I want in trade from GSW is Patrick O'Bryant. This isn't meant as a slight to POB, but the way I see it, its a lose-lose situation for MIN.

If he comes to MIN, he'll get playing time. If he stinks, fans will hate him. If he does well, he jeopardizes our ping pong balls and increases his price next season. If we wanted to give him a chance, its in our best interest to let him moulder away all of his trade value on your bench.

MIN's season starts after this summer, so things we value are picks, prospects, or cap relief. The things we are the wrong team for is current production and UFA's that don't move our longer deals.

Well, you're not going to get 25 PPG from them, but you are going to get several more options, more talent, and more current production than what you have now. It's obviously a deal to help more immediately than prospects and a late pick.

I don't think that Smith would play much under Nellie, but I'd still be tempted to get him to counter guys like Milsap, Maxiell, Bass, etc. Those kind of players, undersized but stout PFs, really seem to hurt us; heck, in the playoffs last year, people were clamoring for Foyle. So I might take Smith and then only play him against those kinds of guys.

Now the problem is that I don't think Smith is a good defender although I'll admit that I've only seen him play 6-10 times. So, for the Wolves fans here my question is: Can Smith hang with a guy like Paul Milsap defensively?

I'd do that deal .. its pretty typical of the offers we get for Gomes. Lotto-protection is typical as well.
