O.T. Cal Head Coach

Post#1 » by cookie » Sat Mar 29, 2008 7:21 am

Jamie Dixon the coach of Pittsburg says he has no interest in coaching at Cal. Personally, i think we should hire Randy Bennet or the coach at VCU who despite having small programs have built them up to success. Someone who can fricken recruit better than ben braun who sucked. Any suggestions?

As a cal grad, I was extremely happy that they finally made the move to get rid of Braun. He did an admirable job of lifting the team from probation early in his career, but this year was brutal considering the amount of talent we had on the team.

The biggest rumors are probably going to be Mike Montgomery. But if Indiana offers him a spot, I don't see any reason, other than to stay in the bay area, for him to pick Cal over Indiana.

Maybe Mark Few from Gonzaga? He can't stay there forever right? Eventually, he needs to go to a big time program, and given his success on the court and recruiting for a WCC team, I think he could have some big time success at Cal.

they would both be good options. the thing that bugs me the most about college coaches is that some of them can't recruit. ive been waiting awhile since leon powe for a 5 star recruit

The master of turning programs around (and also a good recruiter) is Herb Sendek. He's doing it again at ASU.

Cal needs to start recruiting better. so much talent in the bay area that escapes.

It'll be the coach of Moraga's St Marys

What about Musselhead?

I always thought he could get away with his motivational crap better in college than the pros.

Really I doubt Monty goes to Cal, it would be to hard to swallow as a Stanford guy. Indiana, maybe.

Really the pick is Bennett (whom I had long before Braun got fired). I just feel bad for St Marys who have a bunch of underclassmen coming back.

But Bennett is a very good coach and has a good eye for winning talent.

nellie would be an amazing college coach. smallball would kill in college. up until the age minimum went in place there weren't many quality bigs in college and the college 3 is a midrange jump shot (though it is moving back a foot next year).

i want no part of randy bennett. st mary's can keep him. he can't even win the wcc, how's he going to win the pac10? he's a nice enough coach but his upside is ben braun. instead of the occasional israeli we'll get the occasional aussie. great.

i'm happy that cal went after dixon. that's a decidedly un-cal move. dixon is an accomplished major conference coach and we tried to poach him. that's gotta be a first for cal.

word is that the top two on cal's list right now are tony bennett of wsu and someone named dunlap who is currently a nuggets assistant and was a d2 head coach for a little while. he had a rediculous record in d2 and won a national championship.

if we go midmajor, i want anthony grant from vcu.

nellie to the bears would be hilarious.....but i'd love it.

but it was a great move, a move that simply had to be done. braun wasn't taking cal anywhere.

anthony grant would be really nice. hes young and took a far less talented vcu team out of nowhere to beat duke last year. he can relate to the high schoolers and win them over with reminding them that jason kidd went there. haha.

Couldn't have been said better. The occasional Aussie comment LOL.

Is it me or does the local media worship him and wants him to get the Cal gig that badly(ok, maybe the CC Times)? I hope it doesn't influence the decision.

Don't get me wrong, Bennett has done a really good job at St. Mary's but he's had a couple good shots to topple Gonzaga and he's failed to do so.
