Swallow some pride and hire a Defensive specialist or coach

Post#1 » by Manly35 » Fri Apr 11, 2008 11:48 am

Look....our offense is fine (not last night but most games) What we need
is every guy on that team to know how to defend. I know its not exciting and most of the NBA doesnt even care about Defense but those who do
miraculously win championships ! Hmmm.....so why not hire a defensive specialist and try to better our D next season. Couldn't hurt .........
I think I'm saying...."I CAN'T GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN !!!"

This roster is crying out for Larry Brown...He's so perfect for Biedrins, Arthur and Wright that I actually get a tear in my eye thinking about another year of smallball with ODB-Keith Not So Smart-Turner.

id have to admit larry brown would be a pretty sweet coach teaching these guys ( - baron) legitimate defensive positioning, plays... team basketball concepts... with structure, less chucking...

It would be pretty cool to watch him coach A.I 2.0 with the rebounding chip...

ahh well... only in 2k8 could that ever happen

Even Hollywood Wannnabe would be on his best behavior because of 08-09 being a contract year..No more living in LA and flying up for the games...LB will put an end to that

Whoever the next coach is, I hope he doesn't scrap pushing the ball. I remember Fish walking it up every time and being on pace to win 24 games like it was yesterday.

You can give up smallball without giving up attackball.

Keep the smallball if you want, just mix some big in there once in a while. I think that small ball has been proven to be effective at times. It shouldn't be a panacea though and if utilized properly could make us even better, especially now that we've got the personnel needed to do it effectively. I don't think we should just rhow it out, especially now that we have so much (losses) invested in it.

This post is why I can respect you and have a hard time respecting Nick and Hester. Although you disagree with many things Nelson, you still find a way to be objective.

Good job Turk.

Thank you Mylie and I respect you too. I could probably make a few additional comments but I think I'll keep those to myself (for now).

You know, regarding this thread (as far as getting a defensive minded coach) that's pretty interesting if you think about it. If you take our team as it is which in a sense is almost an offensive juggernaut (highest scoring or second highest in the league I believe), all you have to do is to insert some sound defensive philosphy and we'd be a really good team I think. We could score on just about any team, we just couldn't defend, and for some strange reason if just seemed to get worse and worse as the season wore on. It's not like we were just overmatched when we had the right players in (which I admit weren't as often as we would have like), but it looked at times that guys just weren't even trying, guys that at one time were pretty good defensively, like they didn't even care (even though when it came to scoring buckets, it seemed that they had the desire to make the big bucket and expend the necessary energy) when needed.

Some have said they quit, but I think if anything, they quit defensively. That I cannot understand for the life of me. Forget about the tiredness, was it something they were being instructed to do (or to not do) in their defensive assisnments? That's got me kinda baffled.

^+100000000

Thats what i have been saying and no one believes me. W's havent shown the intensity on the defensive side as they did last season. It came in spurts this season and the later half has shown that they are starting to just but defense in the back seat of everything. Their crazy tazmanian style defense last year is what caused many turnovers for many teams, they just didnt know where to look because it would then be filled with a warrior jersey. I do like watching nellie ball at times, but as we all know that the Suns ran just as well as we did for some time and they never got anywhere because their defense wasnt the greatest. So i say hire a defensive guru that works with nellie to have the ultimate combination of quick attacks and hard nosed defense. I do believe that we have key players to hold the fort down when we need to, its just a matter of doing so rather than conserving energy for the quick three. just my honest opinion.

Clifford Ray is the big man coach we should of kept is the now with the Boston Celtics and the formerly with the Orlando Magic? He's the guy they should try to target since he has history with the Warriors and his coaching career started in Dallas back in 1987.

The other guy could be Paul Silas Sr but think he could be the next coach if nellie decides to retire.

Or how about former Georgetown coach, John Thompson?

Those three names are better than Russell Turner?
