The fact that Nellie waited almost half a season before he even played Brandon (I have a strange suspicion that we would have seen a significant amount of playing time for Yi had he come over here) leads me to believe that Wright was not the choice of Nellie and that more than likely it was Mullin who had the most influence on the decision to 1) trade J-Rich and b) make the decision to draft Wright. Of course this can't be proved but seems to be most likely. I wouldn't say that Nellie is the greatest fan of Wright (for whatever reason) and I do believe it was Yi whom he was targeting. All evidence points to that (It's a good thing for us that things don't work out the way Nellie wants all the time). BTW I do think that Yi would have done much better here than he did in Milwaukee playing under Nellie and may have had a better season for us than Brandon did (only because Nellie would have given him a shot) and he would have fit better under our running/no defense style.

I don't buy into the Nellie hype on Yang. If anyone wanted Yi it was the front office for obvious reasons. As Nellie said, they got the best player at 8 and one of the best BPAs in the draft.

I don't agree with Nellie not playing Wright more, especially the second half of the season. It's hard for a rookie who was hurt all summer, missed training camp and wasn't available for the first few games of the season, has fallen way behind in his development. I firmly believe had he played in the summer league and the preseason, he would have logged more minutes.

Major assumptions going on there.

Firstly, we could have called off the trade once we saw Yi get selected if that was the guy we were truly targeting. Didnt happen.

Secondly, you have no proof that Nellie was targeting Yi. None. Nobody does outside that small circle of NBA people that you are not a part of.

Thirdly, even if we had drafted Yi I could go off and make the assumption that Nellie would have turned that snatch into a raging psycho of a ball player. I mean, as long as we are making wild assumptions based on nothing substantially factual, why not?

Thing to remember is that the #8 pick was part of the attempt to get Garnett. I do believe a lotto pick for a rebuilding team plus an exemption is more valueable to the rebuilding Timberwolves than a 20 pt scorer comming off a knee injury.

And for all the Nelly haters who is available that is proven to be better.

Anyone who isn't stifling our future by throwing them into this go-nowhere for the sake of 5 more regular season wins would make a better coach at this point... there is no present and he obviously doesnt coach for the future.

The #8 was never a part of getting Garnett. If it was, we would have taken Al Thornton, who the Wolves coveted. So we either were not at all close in our offer (meaning we never did offer Monta AND Biedrins) or we weren't interested in mortgaging our future to get the guy Nellie wanted. I could see the 2nd scenario happening, especially with the holdout Nellie had afterwards.

The reason for no KG deal was simply that the TWolve front office was not going to allow him to stay in the division unless they were raping the team he went to. That's why he went to Boston for as little as they were able to get him for. Although they never "officially" stated it, the asking price to the Warriors was significantly higher than for most other teams. We never really got the specifics of what the Warriors were offering them, but I believe it was pretty high but even if higher than what Boston was offering, Glen Taylor was not sending him here, and McHale worked something out with his old teammate, Danny Ainge. Taylor could not stand the thought of seeing the Warriors (and Garnett) challenging for the division and possibly getting ring.

The reason for no KG deal was KG nixed it.

The reason we made the JRich trade was to get the BPA with the #8 pick (not to target Yi) and to free up salary to re-sign Biedrins and Monta without going into major league lux tax land.

I could have sworn that we settled this pretty much immediately after the trade happened.

Nellie bashing conspiracy theorists, please go away.

Congrats on the baby, Subculta. By the time the little one is old enough to understand what is going on we will have a seasoned Monta, Brandan, and Andris working together like a machine. This will be a great era to be a Warrior fan!

And as long as we are talking about the summer...mine is going well too. Im moving to the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy in about two months, but not before a few weeks sampling food and wine everywhere between Bologna and Rome.

I'll keep an eye out for Marco and tell him that Rowell thinks he needs to lay off the lasagna :D

thanks man! Have fun in Italy... that will be the last place my wife and I had a chance to visit before deciding to have a kid. No more trips to Europe for a while.

If you have a chance (while in Rome), we took a one day cooking class about an hour train ride outside of the city... amazing experience to cook your own Raviolis from scratch. If Beli does look a bit lumpy it's understandable

Nick - have lots of fun in Italy. Love it and miss it.

Congratulations to you and your wife on the kiddo, "Subaculta."
Much more important and fun than Chris Gatling's career rebounding averages.
