With the 49th pick...The Golden State Warriors select

Post#1 » by GSWhoopfan » Fri May 30, 2008 8:24 pm

i think the second round is worth mentioning. probably in the rare minority (as always), but id rather have a couple early 2nd rounders than the 14th pick.

With the 49th pick The Golden State Warriors select...

Gary Forbes from the University of Massachusetts

(and only GSWhoopsfan is happy)
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

Nonsense!

I'm sure Gary Forbes and his mother would be happy also.

Forbes is a good pick... I actually agree with all your 2nd round picks you've listed (cept Maynor)...

And the suggestion to get 2 early 2nds instead of a mid 1st... 2nd round picks are apt to ask for more money if they are the slighest bit successful, and also are signed for at least one year less.

Doesn't GS have the 44th pick?

Also, rather than trade down from the 1st to the 2nd, I wish GS was a franchise that paid cash to trade up from #44 to #30-35.

Not bad. At that slot a lot rides on who might slip through the cracks as well as some guy we never considered who impressed the scouts. Forbes, Maarty Leuwen,S Singletary, P Calathes, Trent Plaisted, JR Giddens are all guys capable of being NBA role players. That late...we want a guy who has a pretty decent foundation and won't rust out before he's ever given a shot.

giddens would be my pick, although he gets to the line at an astronimical clip, he converts barely over half of his free throws... but im sure that can be fixed.

i like JR

I'm pro trade-down in this draft. Look up the stats for Ryan Anderson,Richard Hendrix,Lester Hudson,Sean Singltary,Forbes. Look up the numbers for Galinnari,Batum,Donte Greene,Jordan,Westbrook. Fact is that a number of rd 2 guys BY PLENTY outplayed some of the touted top 15. SOME of the raw fruit will ripen and some will rot. You want to factor in an NBA team's track record when it comes to creating a star from raw material. WE SUCK. We need to get guys who got the coaching and experiance and produced up to a decent level. I'd LOVE to have the W's excell at maxxing the potential of raw potential guys-but we just do not have that ability yet. Azu and Watson dominated in the D league. That gave them credentials in Nellie's eyes. They got more minutes than our last 3 rd 1's combined ----by a lot.

Ryan Anderson is going to be a good player in this league. He is for a sure a 1st round pick.

Giddens had real nice numbers all round. He had better RBD stats as a G than B Wright got as a F a year ago. He had nice numbers in steals + blocks-hinting at good defenive potential. He's athletic and can score. If I saw SG as a priority--I'd have him higher on my list, but by our #2 we want a guy with enough to be able to play,to at least make the team. Anderson,Hendrix,Hudson can help more just due to us having a bit more need for what they can bring. Those 3 won't last till mid rd 2 however.
Giddens SHOULD be gone by our pick too--but he MIGHT still be there.

Check out Leuwen too. High % 3 shooter but a good rebounder and high asst numbers for a PF. Not a flashy athlete but can be a Harpering-Croshere-Kleiza type off the bench.

While there are obviously a few exceptions (such as Ellis and Arenas) the majority of hits when drafting in the 20-40 region tend to be just Azibukie quality reserves. And obviously there are plenty of misses that never get that far.

This draft is considered similar strength as last year, when Thad Young, Julian Wright and Rodney Stuckey went near #14 as freshman or sophmores with (at least for Young and Wright) limited college performance. GS should be trying to get a player who will work out that well, rather than just bailing out and looking for nice 9th or 10th men.

The way to get a pick in the 20-40 range is to move up from #44. If GS is committed to staying out of the luxury tax they should at least use some of the money they save to move up (and it doesn't take much compared to other NBA $$)

I was absolutely positive that rem would bring UO's Maarty Luenen... who's ceiling hovers around Shelden Williams.
