Last season, the W's big three were BD,Monta and SJax. They were good enough to win 48 games and you know the rest...After watching the successful playoff teams, they've all got three things in common.
They have an established PG's/star player, a low post presence with least one good perimeter shooter/playmaker.
Boston got Pierce, Allen and KG
Lakers got Kobe, Odom and Gasol
Detroit got Billups, Hamilton and Wallace
San Antonio got Parker,Ginobli and Duncan.
I think we got at least two of the three in BD or Ellis and SJAX. Ellis is no doubt part of the W's future or I'd like to think he's in the W's grand master plan. BD is in contract limbo...and more likely to be dealt if Ellis continues to impress as a playmaker...Mully and Nelly really need to focus on developing the offensive game of either Beans or Brandan Wright by getting a respected big man coach. I like the hiring of Sidney Moncrief but what about hiring a more qualified big man coach than Russel fricken Turner or Stephen Silas??? Hire Paul Silas Sr or John Thompson for crying out loud.
I know that Nelly is still the coach but I'm sure at some point in the offseason that they have to find that elusive big man that can make us a much more balance scoring team and ultimately a contendor. Biedrins upcoming season is the tell tale sign on whether he can be the guy or if he's simply a hustle/rebound type of guy.
Ellis, SJAX and Bosh would be my ideal big three for next season but that's a pipedream I know. We could try to get Curry from the Knicks but is he worth the risk? I'm not sure what other PROVEN big man is available that the W's would want. Brand is the other big name big man we could try to get by dealing BD and whoever but is he worth the risk?
Drafting Kosta Perovic in the second round could be insurance for the W's if they chose to shop Biedrins and or if contract negotiations look dismal in the offseason.
In closing, until the W's find that elusive big or the next Kobe in the upcoming draft, the W's will continue to be a lottery team.

Detroit Pistons have won titles without great classic bigmen. Laimbeer and Rasheed were defensive outside shooters.
Bulls had Horace Grant and Rodman who are comparable to Biedrens.
So that is 9 titles driven by great guard play of Isiah, Dumars, Jordan and Pippen.
GS missed out on Oden and would have to trade a lot to get Beasley
Gasol would have been perfect current bigmen available Randolf, maybe Boozer and Odom 20 and 10 guys in the block. Curry from NY as well. Not many others.

Hi Warriorfan,
The Warriors are not championship contenders, period, and as long as opposing coaches don't sleep on them like they've been able to in the past, they're not even playoff contenders. With coaches and their players not interested in losing to the Warriors gimmicks, we saw how well the Warriors fare against true NBA competition in the fourth quarter of this season. Terribly.
But the team does have a 15-10 threat - two of them now, actually - who just need the playing time with the average vets out of the way.
I agree with you that the nucleus is very strong now and that an extra draft pick or two in this draft - even an additional second rounder gives a team a shot at all kinds of quality role players this year - is a much better approach than trying to move up to take a gamble big man who is not remotely better than the current in house options.

Any idea thats based on doing anything for Nellie is a slap in the face to the future of the franchise.
Not only that, but calling Kosta "Biedrins" insurance? Hard to take any of this seriously when your thinking like that. The message at the end is extremely relevant and completely against Mulson's school of thought - take the BPA regardless of position.
We've only done it once (Wright) and thats after our attempts to leapfrog CHI to nab Yi were thwarted... Nellie wanted his perimeter big. A need... POB, a need pick.
Fortunately for us, our biggest need has yet to be determined. If Baron's gone, SG becomes our biggest need. If Baron stays, PF/C becomes our biggest need. Hopefully both Kansas kids (Arthur/Rush) are there at 14...

The championship Pistons also had Ben Wallace and Mehmet Okur...and McDyess or Elden Campbell.
The 80's Pistons had Laimbeer, Mahorn, Edwards, and Salley. You find me a guard in the 80's who wanted to drive through that gauntlet and then I'll agree their bigs weren't important.
The Bulls had Grant/Rodman + 3 centers (18 fouls + some rebounding).
The Lakers are headed for a dynasty type run with Kobe... + Bynum, Gasol, Odom, Mihm and Turiaf...
So you're right, that championship teams have been driven by guards. But they also relied on their bigs to rebound, defend, and block shots.
Trust me, as a Warriors fan I've tried hard to imagine another way of winning championships and just can't...
We have a good start with big guys: Biedrins. Wright needs to bulk up, but eventually, I think he'll give us scoring in the paint. Kosta is not even as effective as the Salleys and Mihms of the world... and that's not saying much.
As far as I'm concerned, we need to get 2 more dependable bigs before we're even close, especially because the ones we have are not good scorers.

Curry,#6 Pick
Then trade #6 and #14 for Iggy.
Then ship out Baron for whomever
Monta
Iggy
Barons replacement
Bwright
Beans
So....we went from J Rich to Iggy but then end up with a front line where nobody has yet had a 10 per game NBA season. Curry? Screw him. Curry does little of what a big has to do. I'd rather get Murphy back and at least get rebounds,or deal for Zach, since 20/10 by my count is better than the 14/6 you get from Curry. Curry on D? We'd be better off with Croshere .
S Jax for Curry + #6 MIGHT be played into something. I'm skeptical but if we can move Curry for something I like (at least a little) and we trade down #6,get lower picks + ?, maybe Blazer #1 and their high #2's and ?

So the next question is what third team could be involved to make a win win deal for everyone.
what about a deal involving Seattle?
the main players
Baron to NY
Wilcox/Watson to the Warriors
Marbury to Seattle
of course draft picks would have to be moved around in order to have this make sense for everyone, but Baron improves NY, Marbury is a huge expiring for Seattle (a few more dollars shaved off by moving Watson's 2nd year), the Warriors get a backup PG for Monta... and a youngish PF to play alongside Beans.

thanks for the sig Boogie!

Even so....Great deal for the Knicks as Seattle eats a contract for that chump-and it costs them 2 regulara to do that. We get an average F/C for a star PG but do get a decent-somewhat overpaid backup G. Simply...NYK has to kick in some PLUS to get this to happen.
Seattle does not have the talent surplus to just meltdown 2 regulars. GSW might have interest if a top 10 pick was incoming, weth these guys.

yeah, that's why I mentioned picks would have to be involved... but I don't know if NY just gives up the 6th to Seattle without something else being exchanged.
