Rose or Beasley?

Post#1 » by Abyss Impact » Sat Jun 7, 2008 7:55 pm

Which one will we pick if they both fall to number 14?

I'd say Rose, because he will have a better career than Beasley, plus, we already have Brandan Wright.

Rose
Ellis
Pietrus
Wright
Biedrins

All are under the age of 27, we will have a great future with this lineup.

How often does a freshman playing in a major conference end up #1 in rebounds and the top major school scorer. The answer is twice..Durant being the other.

How often does a young PG average 14 pts and 5 1/2 assists.....about 3-4 times per season.

Rose is a quick little rascal...like Augustin,Bayless,Conley,R Felton,C Paul,K Lowry, and a half dozen forgettables....he ain't uncanny like Kidd,Magic, able to do passes that you can't believe while also having a triple double. Paul is a deadeye shooter. Maybe Augustin becomes C Paul (almost) but Rose lacks that 20-30 ft J.

VERY seldom does a good overall player rbd at 12 per in college and NOT become a top tier NBA rebounder. That 25 ppg may not carry over but 17-18 pt and 10 rbd is pretty damn good and about what you SHOULD EXPECT. Beasley can add experiance-skills,power to what he has and raise the possibilities.

Yeah....Rose should be good. I would not bet he's ever as good as Baron,or D Williams or C Paul.

The circumstances that let us pick between Beasley and Rose? Maybe a sudden ice Age? Nuclear war (ha ha ya missed us! ) ? 13 other teams GM's getting togather for a long weekend of hookers and LSD...which we should try to arrange.....I don't know what else.

Stranger things have happened, look at gasol being traded to lakers for low first round picks, look at warriors trading our white trash for black thugs.

I know hes only played 1 season, but durant avg. 4.4 rpg in the NBA after avg. 11 in college...yeah not a great example since hes not a typical foward, but still.

Since Baron and Monta are on the team I would take Beasley who is a Nelson type combo forward.

Bulls fans are totally split

The Hinrich & Gordon lovers want the Bulls to take Beasley

All others want Rose

I personally do NOT care. Whoever the Bulls pick will determine all future moves this summer. Both guys are special.

Its actually the opposite... very seldom does an NCAA top product average more than 10 rpg and do it in the NBA.

Reason being the best rebounders are usually snapped up by good programs, who compete against better competition and also have other guys on the team who can rebound. Use college stats and you'll be hitching your wagon to guys like Chris Mihm, Yemi Nicholson, Kenny Adeleke, Dwayne Jones, Lawrence Roberts... etc etc.

A rule of thumb is that there always seems to be one who slips through the cracks due to height / weight issues, but thats because wingspan has been severely underrated in the past, and it isn't any longer. Guys like Paul Millsap, Reggie Evans... they can slip under the radar. But they aren't the rule, they are the exception.

Durant was put into a SG perimeter role by Seattle basically to get him and Green both regular minutes ASAP. It did nothing for Durant's good inside skills-including rebounding.

Historically I have seen rebounding numbers carry over well from college to pro, more so than scoring. The limitation is often that the top 20 college rebounder may not have enough other assets to get minutes. That the pros are bigger/quicker can be a factor too.

There's a big difference in being a top 5 or top 10 rebounder....getting 10-12 boards per,and being barely top 50 at 7 1/2 per. You don't get 10-12 rbd by accident.

Fair enough rem, but why do you compare basic #s (RPG) of international players to NCAA players? Why does the top 5 or top 10 matter now, but not in Euroball play? I'm seeing some glaring biases and contradictions with how you evaluate rebounders and post players in general...

Top rebounders for Euroleagues usually get about 7 or 8 per game, as odd as that sounds (tips count as team rebounds whereas in the NCAA, they are credited)... same goes for points scored too. Why does rank matter now, but now when your comparing international v. domestic?

We already have Brandan Wright. Both can't develop if they share playing time at PF.
