Shaken faith in the NBA?

Post#1 » by Subaculta » Wed Jun 11, 2008 7:30 am

anyone else a little disturbed at the reports coming out of the Donaghy interview with the feds?

claiming that the 2002 WCF were fixed (which has legs since just about everyone from Ralph Nader to every sports writer in the country spoke out) would be a huge blow to the NBA and fan confidence...

thanks for the sig Boogie!

Absolutely. David Stern is scrambling to cover up all the leaking holes right now. I wouldn't be surpriseed to hear more allegations surface soon.

I'm more than a little disturbed. I'm completely pissed at this and I'm not even a Kings fan.

Ugh.

Of course it does... but there wasnt much to begin with. NBA, like the Warriors, is a business. If there is a way to maximize their business, they will do it. You have a sect of rich guys sitting in owners booths, do you think they really care about compromising the integrity of the game?

$$$$$$$$ is what its about. Game 7 = huge ratings and huge money. Controversial calls garner attention and dont affect sales in the least. These people didn't stumble into millions of dollars. They know what they are doing - milking every last penny they can.

 It's a sad state when the refs incompetance serves to mask incidents of corruption and Stern and some owners play along. Meanwhile the TV money threatens to turn the league into a whore.

The NBA referees have been horrible for a long time. It keeps me from watching many other games than those that the Warriors play. In fact as a Warriors fan it is easy to see that the referees perform differently when there is a non-national tv game and a national tv game.

The funniest thing and kind of the sickest is that Phil Jackson was being such a baby after game two of the finals this year because of the officiating. But he's been part of the positive side of the whole referee thing a lot more than not. Just look at that play where Fisher fouled Barry at the end of the game that wasn't called but should have been and could have taken the game to overtime.

The NBA is not that fun to watch - especially when you have these star players who just put up these horrible shots in motions to get the wimpy foul called so they can get to the line.

This sucks. I was living in Sac at the time, and I remember how pissed everyone was. Obviously i didnt like the Kings but if that happened to the Warriors i would beyond pissed. This is the same reason I dont watch boxing anymore, corrupt judges/referees.

I hope NBA handles this better than MLB did steroids. Independent officials is the only way to go.
