For me, the point of trying to cash out of Pete is primarily to get bigger. CV does that, CB doesn't even if he does play D.

And I think we can both agree to stipulate that guarding italians does not necesarily constitute subtantive proof of defensive competence. :D

No surprise, Buike opts out.

Azubuike opts out: Guard Kelenna Azubuike has joined Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins in the restricted free-agent market after opting out of his contract. Azubuike, who would have made the league minimum of $797,581 next season, is in line to receive a modest salary bump after averaging 8.5 points and 4 rebounds.

"I think everybody would hope that it would get done early," said Mike Higgins, who represents Azubuike and Watson. "But I don't envy them, because they have a lot on their plate. Just like with any team, they only have a certain amount of dollars to spend, and a lot of guys to sign."

^^From that same article:
Coach Don Nelson wants his younger players to be a bigger part of the rotation, which is just fine by the pair. Wright is fully healed from the groin injury that cost him the final four games of the regular season, and he has been working on his shooting - both mid-range and trailing three-pointers - as well as his ballhandling.

I can't believe I didn't see this coming.

Only Nellie would want the NCAA FG% leader and a guy who has nearly unblockable post moves to learn to take 3 pointers... this is our professional basketball coach.

it won't be bad if nellie can turn wright into a Troy Murphy offensively i guess. Murphy was semi-useful there.

I dont think its necessarily a bad thing if brandan can shoot the three.. just as long as its not the only thing he does.

i mean he has ball handling ability and he can take someone off the dribble.
he can score in the paint, finish in transition, and if he has a three point shot (or jumpshot in general) youd have to respect... that makes him even mroe dangerous imo.

but if hes casting off 12 threes a game like baron and jack then i have a issue.

its liek saying monta shouldnt learn to shoot threes because hes one of the most effecient guards in the NBA.

a three point shot just makes him even more dangerous.

we both know brandan and tay are smart enough to know where thereREAL strengths are.

Baron and Stephen apparently are NOT smart enough to recognize this

When you talk about a trailing three pointer you have to picture a wide open staight away 3 that can be a little higher percentage than other types of 3 point shots.

It's not a huge feature, but another tool in the box.

I want to hear about muscle gain, that's when I'll get excited.

Wright could also stand to work on developing some stronger post moves to use as he gets stronger...

I think working on his 3 pt shooting is terribly short sighted in terms of his overall development...

ahh, nelly. why?

if b wright's on a fast break, and somehow gets the ball at the 3 point line, he should take it to rack. he should be working on his post game and getting stronger, because he can be an awesome rebounder/defender/post scorer/facilitator...but he's not a shooter. guys with as poor mechanics as him CAN become shooters, but it takes a lot more reps, and why waste time having him develop something that he shouldn't be doing in games, anyway? i can't think of a situation where i'd see him with the ball at the three point line and think "Hey, shoot it already!"

It's just after watching this last season, I'm sick of living and dying by the three, which is why I waver with Monta. but Monta's such a pure offensive talent that I believe he can extend his range without having mental drawbacks.

oh, and re:azubuike, he can go play for the kentucky colonels for all i care.

I know I shouldn't be shocked about Nelson doing this with Wright.

Well....I think for all practical purposes Mike Pete was "dumped" last summer, had to work the rest of his shift with that pink slip taped to his jersey. CV....he could give us about what Croshere did, maybe run a bit better on the break-less accurate from outside and less consistancy. He's not as useful as Azu. He may be comparable to Pietrus who'd vary a lot from very good to mediocre. Pietrus hustle was better...when not trying to do much,Pietrus was FAR better on D. Mostly...CV would be using up the cap $ we let MP+ POB go to get.

Azubuike has had a short and rather impressive NBA career considering he's a walk on who's done more than any of our recent #1 picks. If we want to fixate on what this guy or that guy is somewhat lacking at....we have no players and the GM-coach and owner have to go too. This is....THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS. Look at a MAP....you can't find "Golden State". You can find Milwaukee or Orlando, and even Minnesota. In terms of what this team has done the past 2 decades...we are hardly on the NBA map. So.....having these lofty standards for our 6th man types kind of baffles me. WTF? we rant about everything wrong with Pietrus (or the latest scapegoat) then follow up with wanting some guy with all the same flaws..and maybe a few extra
