Kosta to Israel?

Post#1 » by WarFan » Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:55 pm

I saw this link somewhere else while the boards were down the other day, thought I'd post it here:
http://www.ballineurope.com/countries/greece/the-nba-euro-exodus-continues/

Another rumor going through the ‘boards is the return of Kosta Perovic to Europe, and more specifically to Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Serbian big man, who appeared in just seven contests with the Warriors in his entire career, has never made any impact for Golden State. Honestly, I could never understand how the Warriors could sign him: Perovic is such an atypical player for the run-and-gun team that his career was over before he even went to the States. The Euroleague is a much better fit for the 2.18m tall kid from Serbia.

So, we might have an extra $2 million to work with I guess.

I don't see why the Warriors would allow this, but I suppose this is a minor test of the "Warriors only signed Kosta as a favor" theory - if they think he sucks, they'll let him go (assuming there is a real option in Israel, and not just yet another BS rumor); and if they want him on the squad at his piddly/huge (depending on your perspective) contract, they'll keep him.

As far as I know he's under contract, but it could be a mutual agreement to just terminate the contract.
If so...the Warriors failure to really take a look means they pissed away $2 mill for no reason at all.

It also means we have zip for C backup-but I guess we could spend just a bit more and get Elson,or could hope Alecs Maric slips through rd 2...or....?
CENSORED... No comment.

actually things might be looking up, my sources have indicated that in the last two weeks talks between the Warriors and Patrick O'Bryant have been thrown a life line... if that's the case, then the Warriors might have the back up C that they need and POB might have one more chance to display his talents in a GS uniform.

It would be an interesting move for Kosta. He is not likely to get much PT next year, even if POB left. So that would leave him without a contract, without any real positive highlights to sell himself with, and a lot of uncertainty about his future.

If Maccabi offered him 3M Euros a year for the next several years it would be a wise move for Kosta. Thats over $4M/yr, much more than he could expect to get in the NBA after his contract expires next season.

I hope he sticks around, of course. But if he leaves then it gives us that much more money to re-sign Azubuike.

I will have to eat a little crow if the Warriors are able to resign POB on the cheap, than what they would have had to pay for his final season of his rookie option.

Israel is only about two more stiffs away from becoming undesireable to the Palestinians...Maybe that's the plan..Code name *The Perovic Plan*..

I see peace coming to the Middle East.

That possibility went out the window when Nellie announced he was returning.

Kosta is gonzo, Mully doesn't even mention Kosta in the TimK interview..

“ We’re a young team,” Mullin said. “That’s the thing I see. We’ve gotten younger, increased our win total. (Adding a veteran) is a legimiate thing to look at. If we didn’t have these young guys–Andris, Belinelli, Brandan and Monta and (Kelenna) Azubuike… They’re young. And the pick we’re going to get… That’s one, two, three, four, five, six… Half the team’s young.”
