i hate that idea. i hate how people are making up how good our core will be when they havent shown us anything besides ellis. the first poster wrote "they'll be major contenders for years to come" if they keep that lineup...

Ellis
Bellinelli
Randolph
Wright
Biedrins

Contending isnt good enough for the future...we need to be a real threat. That lineup has no superstars in it. You cant win a championship without a legit superstar

I'd say Detroit didn't really have any superstars, but a bunch of stars. You can do it with a bunch of stars and I think that's what this poster is saying, particularly since they're all about the same age which means that they could play together for the next 10 years perhaps. After about 5, I'd say they could be pretty darn good. Fact is, the NBA is so talent laden, even having a superstar there's no guarantee (look at Kobe and Pierce before this year). Look at AI and Carmelo. It's going to be hard, no matter how you put it. I think we stack up pretty good as far as any young team is concerned (and many old ones) but your point is well taken, there's no guarantees and maybe it's better to keep it quiet for a while and let these youngsters do something first, before we get too hyped up.

I believe fully that Randolph will be a star of the highest order, but I also acknowledge that **** happens and he could bust out. I really do like this kid, though.

Just because people don't see us in the same boat as Portland doesn't mean we have to "support our warriors" in a thread. Honestly they're right. The discrepancy in young talent between Portland and Golden State is big, and although our pieces are nice, I don't see anything that makes me go "wow, these guys can develop into a championship squad"... Not without adding a major centerpiece that is.

In a different perspective, I'd trade our whole roster for the whole Blazer's roster (or even a handful of other rosters) with no hesitation at all. They wouldn't say the same.

It was a little premature to make that thread, lets see Bellinelli, Randolph and Wright gain a little more experience before we gloat on the general board.

Don't worry Supafly, I got your back on that thread. Next time, don't be so quick to make a thread. Remember, not everyone wants to hear about the Warriors that much. Many of them view us as a fluke team, and will use a thread like that as opportunity to take cheap shots at Golden State.

I'm not 'telling' you what to do, i'm just saying that IMO only post a thread like that if you got stats and whatnot. If anything, post a thread like that here first, and see what type of responses you get. If the Golden State Warriors fans on this board don't agree with your ideas and thoughts about the team, then there's a good chance that the idea/thought won't be liked in the General Board as well.

+ 1

One of the things I''d like to point out in comparing what we have to what Portland has, is that we have a nice mix of veterans which they don't. This is very important in evaluating the two teams in their present state. I also believe that even our youngsters already have some significant experience under their belts, being playoff battle tested as well being in a playoff race. So right now (and I think for the next two years) we will have a definitive edge against them until their youngsters get up to speed and we better take advantage of it while we can (which is why I do not want to trade Baron this season and get back to the playoffs).

The fact that this is going to be Oden's first year also gives us a big advantage over them, as this will instead of being his second year in the league (which is important since usually that first year is used to get rid of a lot of rookie mistakes) I expect Beans will at the very least hold his own against him and likely outplay him signiificantly. I'd be very surprised if Portland were to make the playoffs this season but there's no reason why we shouldn't.

Return to Golden State Warriors
