You left off a very popular option - zero percent!
I think slim and none covers it.
I voted for 10% chance (maybe would have said 15%)... I think there is definitely a chance that it is used, not zero percent chance that some have championed. It will take the right opportunity though, no using it just to use it.
Agreed
Yeah don't forget guys, Warriors could go all in at $9.9 mil... they could use it to sign two $4 mil/year guys... they could use a couple mil of it. It's not all or nothing (though even a little of it could put us into the tax... depending on Monta and Andris' deals).

Absolutely, the thread wasn't intended to mean that ALL would have to be used. The idea is would it expire. With deals like the Piston one now apparently in vogue, it's quite possible that it won't be needed, and if so that would be great for us.

-bob- wrote:its possible to use it and not add alot payroll.

here's an example, just an example!
AL for Varajao+Pavlovic...
trade is within 125%+100K

breakdown:
TE for Varajao($5.3M) + Pavs($4.2M).. yes, you can split the TE for two players
AL($8.4M) for nothing...

-this creates a brand new traded player exception in the amount of AL's salary($8.4M)

in fact, if AL is traded before the TE expires, its highly likely that our TE was used and a new one was created.

Bob you're friggen awesome and always on point with new info. Way to go brother, truly one of the brightest bulbs in this lamp.

The clock is ticking. Tick! Tick! Tick!

Bob is right. Using his example. We "give" Al (or for a player/draft pick(s) if they are not under the cap enough) to Charlotte. Exellent point (I concur with Mylie).

Actually that's a whole different thing. Lets say we get Carroll and a pair of distant rd 2's. If Al is $4 mill more...we just got a new TPE,but the old one was irrelevant. Char was under cap..so no variant gets them a TPE...further...they can add salary up to the cap,and I don't know what that number is.

Bob's example better applies to a team over cap. I'm not certain a TPE is instant. However part 2 can be a day later if nessecery. In theory at least,we can do a small (under $10 mill) deal and structure it so both teams get a TPE good for a year. I don't know if there's an obscure rule against that. In that context we would not nessicerily be adding salary. We'd do a normal trade and the new TPE is a little bonus.
CENSORED... No comment.

I'd love for Cohan to be willing to go into the tax for a year and use the TPE. Even for something like Tim Thomas + future Minny 1st would help GS next year (Thomas provides post depth and has the offensive skills for Nellie to play him) and help GS in the future (adding a likely 11-20 pick).

The reality is that there is a ~10-20% chance that a small part of the TPE is used ($1-4M, in a way that keeps GS under the tax). and a 80-90% chance it isn't used at all.

Tim Thomas is a bad character guy. He's a slacker and lazy. Yes he's had a couple of decent runs, but I don't like the guy.

The only thing Livingston has going for him right now, is that he hasn't got on the court to play 5 on 5, as far as we know. He refused the Clips before the option was tendered or not.

So either he's done for his career, or the Clips have lost out. If the guy would get on the floor in a simulated game setting and show us that he can go full bore, then you'd have to consider a small contract. His length and handling are perfect next to Monta.

As for Tinsley, pass. The guy was the glue that held the Gangsta style together in Indy. He was the guy who's influence was the poorest for all who followed. Stay away from that guy at all cost.

Marbury, same thing. The guy just doesn't get it. Hall of Fame talent, with a piss poor attitude. To bad. D'Antoni might want to play him some before they give up fully. He is the perfect PG coach. Of course your PG has to make good decisions. Not sure if Star can pull that off.

Also want to stay away from Villanueva now that our draft has panned out. No need to bring in a guy who'll steal minutes from these guys.

Back-up center

back-up PG

Shooter

Those are the 3 areas of big time need now.

Anyone who helps us get rid of Al and Petey. How about Rasheed, Marion, Odom, G Wallace? Heck I'll take Varejao or even CV. Who would you want if anybody?

I'd like Miller, but he's actually more than the entire TPE (10.2 M) and I don't really know if I'd want to give Philly all that extra cap space (could be dangerous).

Like Foster. I think he'd be the ideal backup for Beans (especially if Kosta leaves and we don't resign POB). Not sure if the FO would bite at 5M.

Today is Monday (Tuesday in like Asia) which means TPE has officially expired.
