Fill our 3 biggest needs
1.) Back-up PG: Should invest in someone who can play PG and also play beside Monta in the future if possible. Little guys need not apply.
2.) Back-up center: Kosta Perovic? He's a guy who should be on the team, but still I think we need someone with a rep for being tough as ess.
3.) Shooter: This is a tough one. The best case scenario would be a back-up PG who shot lights out. Hard to find though. Mike Miller fits perfectly and rebounds the ball as well, but he seems to be off the table.
Let's get some scenarios going that will fill these needs to go along with our current group. Blowing the team up is not gonna happen, so the huge 4 team trades with 4 and 5 guys coming and going aren't needed or helpful.

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
If trading Baron doesn't count towards "blowing up the team"...
Baron + Al to DAL for Kidd + Howard
- Sign Desagna Diop to a 3 yr, 12m contract
- Sign James Jones to a 1 yr, 1.5m deal (player option for 2nd year)
Kidd / Monta
Monta / Jax / Beli
Howard / Jax / J.Jones / Randolph
Wright / Biedrins / Randolph / Hendrix
Biedrins / Diop / Kosta
If trading Baron is too much...
Trade Al (2-20) + Pietrus (S&T) (3-12) + Belinelli (3-7) to CLE for Eric Snow(buyout) (1-7), Joe Smith (1-5) and Sasha Pavlovic (2-10). Front office doesn't hate it because it saves us a decent chunk of money (depending how the Snow buyout goes) over the 2 years, adds a shooter and a perimeter style PF in Smith... Snow is bought out.
- Still sign Desagna Diop to a 3-12.
- Sign Carlos Arroyo or Anthony Johnson to a 1 year, 1m contract (2nd year player option)
- Sign a minimum SG (Marcus Dove, Quinton Ross, Jarvis Hayes, Kareem Rush)
Baron / Monta / (Arroyo or AJ)
Monta / Pavlovic / K. Rush
Jax / Pavlovic / Randolph
Wright / Smith / Randolph / Hendrix
Biedrins / Diop
Not even sure if CLE would want either deal, but just throwin em out there.

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
Here's a list, it only a list.
PG's :
Anthony Johnson - did you know he shot 45% from 3 point range last year? Free Agent will cost around 2.5 mil
Carlos Arroyo - Tough and good size. Excels in an open court. Free Agent. Wants to be the man at PG. Doesn't care for Baron. Made 4 mil last year, so will cost at least that much. He may go to Europe.
Kyle Lowry - Strong young pG who may be on the move because of the bevy of pG's they now have. 1,6 mil in 08. good young player who would be nice next to Monta.
Ramon Sessions - If there were any way to grab this kid, I would do it. I'd even consider digesting Gadzurics crappy contract. 7.5 assists last year and over 40% from 3. The kids got it and we should get it. 700,000 unguaranteed.
Marcus Williams - The Nets have fallen out of favor with him. Maybe the draft guys had it right when he fell in the draft last year. But I think he'd love our style if he could get into shape. He's a special passer who might just need a change of scenary. 1.26 mil next year.
Steve Francis - Before the haters get going, consider the upside to a former all star on the cheap. At 2.6 mil next year he's worth that money at least as much as say Barnes is. Could be worth a shot, pending a physical.
Back-up centers:
Alonzo mourning - If he isn't retired, then he'd put the T in tough for us. He can only play limited minutes anyway, so his veteran presense would be welcome. Doubt he could handle the pace though. Free Agent.
Jeff Foster - Perfect fit. Hard working and tough. Knows his role and doesn't try to do to much. Good rebounder as well. 5.5 million dollar expiring. Sign me up!
Roni Turiaf - The guy has heart. And his heart may explode in our pace. But I love the tenacity and toughness. the lakers probably bring him back into there crowded front court. Restricted free agent.
Haslem - I know he's a power forward, but for Nellie he could be a nice back-up center. He probably would steal way to many minutes from Wright, but he's a good player and a nice fit for what we do. 6.5 mil in 08.
Joe Smith - Love what Joe Smith has become. Doubt Cleveland lets him go. He played real well when he came over. Joe's a great stop gap for us. Would love to have him.
Shooter:
Matt Carrol - He has a declining contract for 4 more years, with next year at 5 mil. Pretty expensive for a specialist, but as a drive and kick option, he's a nice guy to have it kicked to.
Rashad McCants - He shot over 40% from 3 last year. He's fallen out of favor a bit in Minny. Now they have Mike Miller. I've never cared for him, but was surprised to see that he shot the 3 so well. 2.6 mil in 08.
Juan Carlos Navarro - Doesn't have great shooting numbers, but I feel the guy's a good shooter. Free agent. Probably goes to Europe.
Ricky Davis - Before you say, "Hell no!!!" realize this. He shot over 40% from 3. He's 6'7" and can play the 2 or 3. He's a free agent and won't command high dollars. He seems to be a Nellie type of guy. Not crazy about him, but from a Nellie stand point he kinda fits.
Mike Miller - What can I say? The guys a perfect fit for our system and he also rebounds well. I think that ship has sailed, but man he'd be good for us.
So over all considering our situation, Anthony Johnson is a no brainer. 45% from 3. Veteran PG. One year deal. Knows he's a back-up. Has good size.
Back-up center? Gimme Jeff Foster if possible. He's perfect and he and Beans make a great tandem. Smart physical player.
Shooter - If i could I go TE for Miller. But if I'm realistic, Anthony johnson takes care of it this year with his 45% from 3 mark.
Or I swing the Ramon Sessions deal, where I get a PG who averaged 7.5 assists and shot lights out. I'd have to eat some crappy contract to do it, so i'd have to swallow Gadzuric probably, who might be an ok back-up to Beans.

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
One of our biggest needs not mentioned is a proven low post scorer. We need a David West or a Carlos Boozer type of player. Hendrix looks like he could be Millsap or maybe Carlos Boozer/David West type of player.
We do need to get a better backup...so I'd like to get Chris Duhon. Ramon Sessions is another name that has played well in the ending part of last season. I don't want a Tinsley & SJAX reunion. Kyle Lowry is another name that could be available. Or we could keep C.J. Watson if he shows he can improve his assist to turnover ratio.
I agree we need a backup better shooter or slashing SG/SF than Buike or Barnes. Ryan Gomes is the one player we should go after. JR Smith is another player that we could use. Jarvis Hayes or Roger Mason are other players we could target.
As far as a backup center or PF, I think the W's will try to get Andersen Varejo. Ronny Turiaf is another player we could use at backup PF or C position. With the Raptors getting Jermaine O'neal, Primo Brezec could be the shooting big man we try to get for cheap.

If Baron is kept, then Baron and Ellis are the top 2 pg's. GS does need a 3rd for injury insurance. CJ Watson is acceptable, other options could be better but more expensive and if the budget's tight I'd rather spend the money elsewhere.
2.) Back-up center: Kosta Perovic? He's a guy who should be on the team, but still I think we need someone with a rep for being tough as ess.
GS does need a 4th post player (ideally a center but if Nellie's going to play Al a lot at c then it could be another pf). If Kosta isn't going to play in this role he should be allowed to go back to Europe (agreeing to a $0 buyout as he can make up the $$ in Europe) to free up roster space and luxury tax room. Kurt Thomas is the best fit, but likely isn't available. After that, Elson? Kwame? Magloire? or trade for someone?
Tim Thomas would be more effective for GS than for most teams (and could certainly be had for a good deal), but he makes too much $$ to fit as a straight addition without going into the tax. Thomas is more interesting as a cheaper (both in salary and trade value) replacement for Harrington, if Al is traded for a center/extra wing.
3.) Shooter: This is a tough one. The best case scenario would be a back-up PG who shot lights out. Hard to find though. Mike Miller fits perfectly and rebounds the ball as well, but he seems to be off the table.
This is supposed to be Belinelli. Even with Marco and Bukie the team would need one more useful wing. I don't know if a true sniper is needed, but they do need 3-point range as part of their skills. James Jones, James Posey, or (if history could be put aside by player and team) MP would work but GS probably isn't interested in paying them the full or near MLE deals they want. Sasha Pavlovic seems like a good trade target as I expect that he's going to bounce back, but like Carroll, he makes too much $$ to fit. Daimian Wilkins is serviceable and signed to a smaller deal and should be readily available.

1) dee brown- i've been saying it for years... this is our backup pg. it's really too bad we didn't give him a chance after utah released him. i also like chris lofton, sign him as a fa. i dont know why no teams took a chance on this guy, maybe because of his cancer..... well he could fit our pg/shooter needs.
3) bellineli's the obvious fit here. we have to develop him into our best shooter. i wish we could have a calbert cheny type of player, but a spot up 3 pt shooter works, if belli can show consistency. not many good shooters are available in this league really when you think about it. member when brent barry was made free agent, how many teams jumped on him. if belli can become anything like barry...
2) backup c is a tough position to fill really. i dont know realistically speaking, we just gotta work with what we have. pob/kosta.....

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
Backup center really isn't a huge need because Nellie is just going to rotate Al, Wright and Hendrix there.
Backup PG however is a huge need, we just can't have Baron averaging 40 minutes a game for another season.
The shooting role will be given to Beli, whether he fills it or not is another question.

I don't see Baron staying
What about getting Cleveland's
Boobie Gibson in a Sign and Trade for around $6M
Anderson Varejeo who as one and an option for $5.7
and
Eric Snow Retiring at $7.3 for one year. and their number 1 next year. We get two decent long term needs covered and cap space.
They get someone who can play with Lebron while he's their. Baron alone will not win the west.

With the Bobcats drafting DJ Augustin, it looks like they don't see Felton as their starting PG of the future. How about trading Harrington to Charlotte for Raymond Felton and filler?

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
Francisco Elson is a better backup C than Diop who's not too mobile and kind of low value on offense. I'd try getting Fazekas as a low $ backup C/PF...can rebound + shoot. Not sure of Justin Williams status, was on the Kings. Shotblocker-rebounder who can run.
That Monta plays a lot of backup PG is a factor. We won't want to overpay for a guy who's mainly a 5 min 3rd stringer. I'm thinking Watson might turn into something. He was a undrafted rookie who played more than Belli. Anthony Johnson is old,but just had a solid year and for low $,low minutes would do fine.
We won't get Sessions. The Bucks like him enough to want to move Mo Williams.
I liked Marcus Williams as a college player. Not sure what's up,he's been nearly forgotten with the Nets.
I doubt we can get Turiaf, would be worth a bid but LAL likely keeps him. Miller has enogh salary that he probably only comes if Jackson or Harrington go. Kind of lateral move. Indy thinned out the herd at C/Pf and so need Foster. With Ike gone to Port, and Oden back,Frye might come rather cheap. He can be a Nellie center.
Gomes is always on the list. Kind of a Matt Harpering type, not flash but real solid. Here he can be a physical SF and play some PF...sort of a more consistant M Barnes. Barnes had a tough year but can bounce back,Nellie knows him,he knows the W's style. Nobody seems to have him on their short list so he may be cost effective for us. I'd also be looking at the undrafteds. Kyle Hines is a Jason Maxiel type, Reggie Williams + AZ Reid were huge scoring wings in small college ball, one might be a very good keeper.

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
A deal like this:
Cleveland trades AV + Damon Jones for Al Harrington
LAC trades Tim Thomas for Jones + Kosta
GS trades Al + Kosta for Thomas + AV
Wouldn't be the glamor deal fans like, but is a realistic option for solidifying the Warriors post rotation.
For the role Nellie uses Al in (defend bigs and shoot 3's) Thomas is about as good (he doesn't have the all-around game Al does, but that doesn't matter that much for this role). AV is a not quite as good version of Andris, but still a good backup center. With Andris, BWright and Hendrix as a 5th post player (to play based on matchups and covering for injuries), GS would have enough post players to avoid playing wing reserves in the post.
Importantly, the deal adds less than $1M to GS's salary for next year, leaving ~$3M under the tax to get perimeter help.

And now penny-pinching deals like this are completely irrelavant.

1) Delonte West
2) Anderson Varejo
3) Josh Childress
Trade Jackson, Harrington or some combination thereof (with Wally coming back if both are going) to Cleveland for West and Varejo. Sign Childress out from Atlanta for efficient scoring.

There is absolutely nothing correct about that, except maybe Fazekas being able to shoot and Diop not being effective on offense.
Diop actually impacts the game with his defense and rebounding, and was an important part of the NJ~DAL trade. He's also guarded the like of Steve Nash and every other player on the Suns - don't you remember the Mavs playoff run? Diop is uber athletic... I dunno why you'd think that if you've seen them both. Elson, who I liked pre this season, is a complete stiff. Poor man to man defense, poor help defense, average at best offense and rebounding. Diop is a 7'2 monster who protects the rim... Elson's a fairy.
The only guy Fazekas could rebound consistently against is that scrub Shelden Williams. Fazekas is too slow and unathletic to even get in position, much less hold it. If he was half as decent as ya thought he was, he wouldn't be a D-leaguer with a 14th-man's suit wardrobe.

Re: Fill our 3 biggest needs
I've seen it.. already decided that Diop is my summer obsession. Until he's inked though, thats the guy I want... 5rpg in 15mpg is pretty damn impressive for a backup C. If Dallas used him to his strengths, the guy could be damn good.
If he's not signed I want POB back.... I'd just like to see one really shrewd move by our FO this offseason, just one move we never saw coming.
