Baron Davis Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by thebossman » Wed Jul 2, 2008 2:11 am

Id like to take a moment sitting right here to appreciate what just happened.

Baron Davis opted out of a $17.8 million deal to sign a 5 year $65 million deal (about $13 million per year) thats a 4.8 million pay cut for this coming season.

It is rare to see a player take a pay cut to play to win, especially at a young age of 29.

So often do we hear players whine and cry about not winning, well maybe if you didn't cripple your team with your max contract they would actually surround you with talent.

I love how Davis did this and hope more players will follow in his footsteps.

I really think this is a Celtic affect, with Ray, Paul and Kevin on 1 team, people realize that if you come together there is a great chance to win. Is Brand, Kamen, and Davis big enough? well I for one am excited to find out.

Opted out of 17.8 million of guaranteed money for 65 million of guaranteed money. How noble of him.

he's getting long term money that really nullifies the idea that its a "paycut". its similar to shaq's supposed "paycut" with miami.

He did get paid long term...but I think he would've been able to get the same contract next summer providing he doesn't get injured in addition to the $18mil. I think he and Brand have been talking this over for a while now.

That is why you opt out early. Why chance it?

Exactly what I was thinking.. not to mention he gets the longtime security and doesnt have to worry if he has an another injury plauged season. Smart move by Baron..

The Clipps are looking strong next year if they stay healthy! Kaman, Brand, Davis, Gordon, Mobley, and THORNTON. Damn! Let's see if the team can play a lick of defense though.
