I'm not waiting five years for Busty to be a moderately useful single-usage role player and I'm not waiting eight years for Greg Popovich to make him smart and good in a championship setting.

That's crap.

And if Busty can't average more than 10 PPG at good percentages, I want him gone anyway. Let me know when Busty averages 3 RPG and 3 APG. Meanwhile, you wouldn't mention Barry unless you thought he was good. He was nothing special until he was 28. Busty has no Pop and he does not have Barry's basketball brain. So let him wander until he's 28 then.

Get a new comparison or you're only making him sound worse.
He's a sometimes successful high flying adventure or he's total junk.

:-)

Not to make this a Brent Barry thread, but he was a high quality player in Seattle, topping out in 2001-02 with 14.4ppg/5.4/5.3/1.8spg/51% fg/42% 3pt/85%ft.

I think Marco will become a double digit scorer fairly easily and could get near those 5apg numbers. I have a bad feeling about his rebounding and his fg percentage, though. The point is, if we have Monta averaging 25ppg, Brandan putting up 17+, and Andris throwing in 15+ (all expectations I think are quite reasonable) then Marco can be a Brent Barry type of player and it would work perfectly well in our team makeup. He does have the potential to be much more though.

That's what I said, Nick. He was 28 when he was starting for Seattle and getting high assists numbers.
So we should just let Marco bum around for another 6 years and then pick him up when he can do two or three things at the NBA level with reasonable control and consistency.

Hey, we agree on Busty now!

When exactly did Brent Barry lack confidence? Someone obviously never met any of the Barrys. The stereotyping that goes on here is comical. Lank,y hoosiers looking white dude, underperforming his talent = lacking confidence. European dude chucking & hotdoggin= BBALL IQ but held back by nerves? ROFL.

Barry didn't work very hard early in his career. Ask him and he'll say so. Confidence had nothing to do with it. He's amongst the most cocky athletes I've ever met (in a totally entertaining and endearing way for the record.)

Oh well. I don't even know if dude has BBAll IQ or not, but I know I haven't seen convincing evidence of it, and neither have the rest of you (unless the italians were all lying haters.) People are gonna believe what they want to believe. I give up on this one. He can be smart if you like. :-?

Those are all Clippers highllights. He was total junk in LA for the most part and they ditched him.

Is this Rick Barry?

Barry always had an abundance of talent and always had basketball smarts. The problem for him was taking the initiative to enforce his will on the game. He started to do that in Seattle and absolutely did not do it in LA until the year he was traded.

Rick Barry even alluded to his sons lack of confidence in his scoring abilities on his radio show a while back, saying that Brent could have been a much better scorer if he would have wanted to be. Instead he molded himself as the pass first ball handler that only took shots within the framework of the offense. To me this indicates a lack of confidence in ones scoring skills, as seen by his relatively low fga average. Nonetheless, he made himself valuable in enough other areas to be a positive asset to several winning teams.

Regarding Marco, if you dont see the basketball IQ in the way he works minute angles on the drive or makes a sick no look pass then I guess that is on you.
