If you guys dont get Brand how about this

Post#1 » by BRIGGS » Thu Jul 3, 2008 5:03 am

Jamal Crawford 6-5 who can play both PG+SG + the Knicks kick in 3mm in cash[he has a 3/30mm$ contract remaining which makes it 3 /yrs 27mm. This saves you from spending 60-75mm on a player that is close to the same skill and does not tie your hands long term+ fits need

Remember Jamal's numbers last year were somewhat close to Baron's-- almost 21 points per game 5 assists nearly 3 rebounds
with solid efg

for a lottery restriced # 1 in 2010

or three second round picks

I'd take Jamal, as long as NY throws in 3 unprotected 1sts.

Crawford would complement Monta well but at 10 million Player option that would be an anchor on the cap.

Rose and Lee or Robinson for a switch of # 2's saves you as much on the luxury tax and is more feasible.

I might be in favor of a Harrington for Crawford swap if we sign Brand. Otherwise its going to take several picks and a lot of cash for me to want to use $8 million of our capspace this year and $10 million in future years on Crawford.
I'd probably do:
Crawford + 3 million cash for 2nd rd pick
09 NY 1st rd pick + 3 million cash for conditional 2nd rd pick

To be quite honest, dont't believe we're going to be in a position to make any deals until the Brand/Baron/Arenas thing gets resolved which won't be at least for a week if not longer. But let's say we don't sign Brand, lose Baron and don't sign Arenas, this is what I'd consider (it all depends on what else is out there for us:

Crawford + Rose for Harrington

This gives you capspace (Rose's salary) and Harrington whose salary is two years in lier of Crawford's 3. Something to consider.

The nice parts about acquiring Crawford

His production is not far off from Davis onthe bottom line. His contract is 3 years 30mm$ which is less than half of what Baron is making. You dont have to overpay anyone on a 5 year deal---it likely would take 5 years 65mm to get someone similar---- let's say Gordon who does not play PG and is not 6-5. And Gordon could still be matched. He's 27 years old and would fit well with this style of play. I could easily see Craw average 22/23 with 5-6 assists and 3 rebounds in the uptemp and 42-43% shooting with solid efg. I wouldnt do it unless I received a first round pick back because you will not find a player like this with a manageable contract. Im sure the Knicks would kick in 3mm$--depends if GD wants to give in and rebuild or still go for it.

Forget it, we're a guaranteed lotto team now and there is no way I'm giving up a lotto pick for Crawford....I don't think any team in the league would....

And there's the problem. Baron is making $0 on the Warriors right now and Crawford's contract would take away our capspace, not only this year but the next two as well. We don't have to sign anybody right now, we can wait to use the space in either of the next two summers and get a player better than Crawford and at a time when we'll possibly be ready to actually compete.

Jamal Crawford is a burden due to his salary and his shoot first mentality. He is a classic player that only puts up numbers on a horrible team. I am sure that if you threw him in the mix of young Warriors players hungry for shots and experience Crawford would screw up their development by taking 20+shots a game and screwing up the flow of the offense.

The fact that Crawford would take up $30M over three years makes his addition beyond unacceptable, but laughable and worth heaps of scorn and derision.
