Ever since joe smith the warriors have gone through many drafts getting players and saying that they are corner pieces to the franchise and are building blocks, and the future. But every few years we trade every single one of these "building blocks, corner pieces, future" players. Joe smith, antawn jamison, hughes, jason richardson, murphy, dunleavy, diogu...then we get baron davis is who an all-star calibur player and he leaves the team. Now the warriors core youth is: ellis, belli, randolph, wright and biedrins. Not too bad of a core and seems like a good looking group....but i find myself saying that with every young core the warriors have...i said it with jamison and hughes, jrich, arenas and murphy and now these guys.
The warriors seem to be one of hte most inconsistent teams in keeping guys around to build with. Yeah sometimes the players we chose to build around arent that great, but we've been in the lottery for over ten years and havent found stable pieces?! I just want some stability from the organization in building around players and actually keeping them. Hopefully they got it right this time and ellis, ab, wright, randolph can be the corner pieces, building blocks, and future of the franchise.

Re: Warriors never keep their "core" together
Keeping a group of players together for 3 seasons is keeping a core. All those non playoff teams needed to be busted up anyways. Jamison begat Davis for 3 years. Murphy Dunleavy Diogu begat Harrington Jackson for 2 seasons and maybe a 3rd.
Davis opted out for less money, Arenas was loss was so bad a rule was put in.

Re: Warriors never keep their "core" together
Is it just me or do all of our franchise stars bolt for "bigger markets?"
CWebb, Spree, Mitch, Jamison, Arenas, and now BD??? I hope that Monta won't demand a trade to LA or NY anytime soon.

C Webb went to Wash DC smaller market, Spree went to NY, Mitch went to Sacto smaller maket, Jamison went to Dallas smaller market, Arenas Wash DC. Oakland is part of the Bay Area which is the 4th largest market next to NY, LA, Chicago then Bay Area.

Mickael Pietrus is still here, but I hope he is gone after last season. He is horrendous to watch. Train wrecks everywhere he go.

Re: Warriors never keep their "core" together
True none of those players were bringing us any playoff luck, but the team just cant land any superstars to keep. we've never had a player that was more than JUST a piece. we havent even had an all-star since sprewell.

Re: Warriors never keep their "core" together
even last year i've considered our core to be ellis, wright, and biedrins so unless we lose one of those guys we still have our core.
no one expected baron to be with us after next season anyway right?

Coming to think about salaries, how come we couldn't pry Brand away from the Clips and give him the paycut that he said he'd take? Then we'd be the real "09 Celtics."

Ever since Smith? Keith Wilkes won rookie of the year when we won our only title. Next year he bolted to the Lakers FA. Robert Parrish had a nice year here, traded with Kevin McHale for JB Carroll. Sleepy Floyd had a big year and we swapped him and JB Carroll for Sampson who's knees were so shot he could hardly walk through practice. Mitch Richmond,Tim Hardaway,Bernard King,Donyell Marshall,Chris Gatling, Tyrone Hill...play well and we trade your ass for some bum. Chris Webber....here a year and escaped.
Curiously it seemed Bimbo Coles,Chris Mills, Felton Spencer, were here FOREVER.
Inconsistant you say? No. We are as consistant as a case of leprosy.
We are the team that traded Wilt Chamberlain.

CENSORED... No comment.

Re: Warriors never keep their "core" together
The core is Monta & Biedrins... probably Wright, too, if what we hear from the FO is accurate. Warriors have had those guys a few years, and most definitely will lock them long-term.
The problem with the last core of Jason, Mike, Troy is that the FO realized they made a mistake in thinking they were a core we could make some noise with.

Warriors just dont have a winning culture. The people in charge just dont have winning as a priority.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.

Re: Warriors never keep their "core" together
I never considered Baron a core player. I figured he was gone when his contract expired. The same goes for Al and Jack. They were brought in to win now, but I never considered them to play out their careers as Warriors.
The problem the past dozen years or so has been the undeserving core player tag given to mediocre players. There were some nice complementary pieces, but really know one that deserved to be built around. Hopefully Ellis and Biedrins are two guys the Warriors can build around. Hopefully Wright can be added to our young core to build around this season.
