The Clips should not be going after players who they know they won't be able to get (Monta and Beans) with their newfound capspace, they need to go after players who they at least have a chance. If the didn't renounced Maggette yes, they need to jump on him right away and if they do have a realistic shot of Smoove, they need to rush to it.
As for the Ws, we need to stay cool (like we have so far) and pick our moves cautiously. No need to make crazy offers for guys like Magguette or Mobley (let the Clips have them, they're theirs). Let's wait until we see what Philly's next move is next after the Brand deal becomes oficial, and then make ours perhaps. And what's the max that Monta can be offered, probably not as much as some of these guys, so I'm not too worried about it. At worst, we have the following as a basic nucleus this season with a boatload of money to go after whatever additions make sense for us in the no lose situation where even if we have a terrible season, not only do we get our youngster the opportunity to get invaluable experience by getting playing time, but the added plus of getting a shot at a lottery pick which is going to be rich in point guards which will be the only position we really would need to fill.
Ellis/Jack/CJ
Jack/Bukie
Harrington/Randolph
Wright/HarringtonHendrix
Biedrens/Perovic
This is not including any FAs or players we pick up in trade.
How's that for an exciting but yet tankable team?

Maggette and the Spurs aren't going to be waiting around for the Clippers to get their ish together. They need to resolve that right away or they'll lose him for nothing.

This thread ends with more responses and views than the Davis opt-out thread, if the world ends right now.

Man I can't keep up with you guys. Day jobs, anyone?
This was referenced earlier today (i.e., about a dozen pages back). I think it was misinterpreted, though:
As was put to me fairly emphatically: The alternative of signing Brand first, which would take away his cap hold and allow the Clips to offer a sixth guaranteed year, is not under consideration. They would rather lose Brand to the Warriors or Sixers and go in a different direction with their cap room
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/warriors/index (way down)
This was not a power play, it was waving the white flag... Clips would rather let Brand walk than, after signing Baron to a big deal (presumably to pair with Brand on a "contender"), pay another year or some extra millions to keep it all together.
Clips fans must be devastated... Brand for Baron. Ouch.
