Lots of "told you so" in this thread recently, but back then on draft month there were very few willing to die on that hill.

Thank the Thunder for taking a flyer on Giddey. Not working out too badly for them so far, but I'd still rather have Kuminga. The only one who doesn't seem to be prospering out of that top 7 is Suggs, and I haven't watched the Magic enough to know if that's just rookie development blues or what. He's certainly on a pretty young and raw team, which probably doesn't help.

When it looked like Kuminga might fall to us I predicted we would pick Kuminga at 7 as a project and then Chris Duarte at 14 as the more NBA ready pick. But previously I was all over the place on the 7 pick.

After 50 games, I think I'm won over.

Kid has a long way to go with his jump shot, which despite what other people are saying, is still not serviceable. He's hitting 31% of them, but people are barely lunging at him.

With that said, you look at the way he moves and you can tell that once he has a couple years in the NBA, he's going to be an all-star. I couldn't say that about James Wiseman, who I actually wanted the Warriors to draft.

I was iffy on Kuminga until I started watching his G-league games and highlights, then I realized he had pretty good passing instincts for a power player and seemed like a smart, if raw, kid. At that point, I was "Hope he drops to us". But I also liked Moody, so I was double-happy on draft day. I've seen nothing since to change my mind.

In the end I had Wagner and Kuminga as my top 2 for #7, leaned slightly towards Wagner just because I thought he'd be ready earlier and fit the Warriors system better. Would have been happy with either one right now but not sorry we got Kuminga and he definitely surprised me with how fast he's developed into a playable guy. If Kuminga can give us 10-12 quality minutes in some playoff games that's a huge bonus. But I still feel like Kerr will lean on his vets so I don't expect to see much of the rookie except in garbage time when playoffs roll around.

I wasn't a big fan of the big given that we already had the Wiseman project.

I was clearly wrong.

May the force be with you.

Giddey has surprised me a lot, I really didn't think he would be this ready this soon. And I agree with you on Suggs as well.

The player which I haven't been surprised, though, is Jalen Green. Since following him before the draft, I thought he had little to offer besides scoring... his defense, playmaking, BBIQ (apart from hunting his own shots), etc are severely lacking from my point of view.

This is not a dig on his bad shooting %s, which were to be expected due to his inexperience and the steep level of competition he was about to face.

He's averaging 0,5 steals and 0,2 blocks in 30 mpg, for example. Obviously this alone doesn't say much, but to me it seems like he doesn't apply his outlier athleticism in other areas of the game.

He could reach superstar status, though... Father Time is always kind on players who still are on the easy side of their 20's.

No problem! Please don't take that as an insult, it was not directed at you or anyone else... just a comment on the status quo at that time.

It's all in good fun, in a light hearted manner. Of course you can poke fun at me when you see it fit too.

May the Force be with you too, and may Krrsantan bless your huntings! 8-)

Cheers.

I think there was a poll where most people said they'd take Kuminga if he was available. I know I was there.

Bouknight not looking so good arguing with his coach live during a game, and Duarte's age is still a problem for me.

Im on record not wanting Kuminga and wanting Wagner.

King kuminga has won me over.

His ceiling is through the roof vs Wagner

Ya, a surprising % of people hoped for Kuminga and Moody, including me. Still happy!

I wanted Kuminga and Davion or Moody...but knew Davion was a pipe dream at 14. Was also really keen on Suggs (think I should just give up on WCAL guys...), but knew that was unlikely as well. Frankly, I didn't think Moody at 14 was possible either.

I actually went to an Orlando game in Orlando and watched Wagner. It was only a single game, and I certainly wouldn't use it to say, "He's a bust" or whatever. But if the point was that he's more ready today than Kuminga, that I didn't see. He looked like a kid with promise, who did some things right, but also had plenty to learn. For large parts of his time on the floor, he vanished and I forgot he was out there. He scored some points, but also had a lot of time and attempts to do so. His defense looked pretty lackluster. So he might be a perfectly fine pick in time, and even today isn't a bad pick, but I have trouble with any suggestion that he was more NBA ready than Kuminga.

I wanted Giddy because I didn't think Kuminga would still be on the board. I am beyond thrilled that the Dubs got JK but I think Giddy will be an impactful player. I also wanted Trey Murphy III at 14 but didn't think Moody would still be there.
