21 points, 6/11 from the field and some good plays. He changed the game.
Italy was down 9 when he stepped into the floor and he lead the team to the win.
I was surprised by how quick his first step was. Hopefully Nico is on the right track.

We saw flashes of it last year, but he seems to drop down to the role of bringing the ball up the court and passing it around with the Warriors. He very seldom was aggressive on offense or defense. I think part of that was no offseason last year. This year with the olympics and summer league and a full pre-season he has a chance to take a big step forward in confidence and the level of attack he brings to the floor. That said, he had a similar issue in college where he was too passive too often.

The main problem last year was that he couldn't turn the corner and get downhill against NBA defenders, even in garbage time. You can't play NBA point guard if you can't get your man on his heels and force the D to start making choices and adjustments. Even if his shooting comes along, he has to be able to initiate at the point of attack or he's not an NBA point guard.

I do wonder about him vs GP2 if it comes down to it who sticks and who doesn't. GP2 supposedly dominated the practice group that included Poole and Mannion, he's a similar size as Mannion with longer arms, but he's several years older and he probably is what he is and isn't going to change much. That said in limited time his shooting was considerably better than Mannions.

GP2 is 8 years older than Mannion. This is GP2's prime... we have no idea what Nico's prime is going to be.
Nico should be on a 2-way again this year. GP2 should be fighting for the last roster spot. At least that's how I see it.

Mannion SHINES ... what an improvement ... he will have a very good 2021-2022 season ...

Yeah! Amazing game! Everybody played so damn well!
Nico had a good performance once again and didn't miss any free throws when it counted the most in the final minutes.
You can see he's still raw in some aspects of his game and he definitely needs to make his shot more reliable, but the talent is there.
He seems to have been working on that “turning the corner and getting downhill “ stuff.Scoots1994 wrote:Sleepy51 wrote:Scoots1994 wrote:

True, but he didn't even seem to be trying to most of the time. He mostly just moved the ball.
