Re: Trade Thread (REVENGE OF THE NERDS II: NERDS IN PARADISE
GSW pretty much spent the bulk of what FA $ are available in getting Iggy + Speights. Is there SOMe left? Some MLE$ ? perhaps but I guess it's at best maybe $2-2.5 mill.
However...I assume GSW CAN spend some TPE money??? Maybe quite a nice chunk (or a couple of chunks) with
a possible max as big as what biedrin's was paid ($9 mill? To GET a guy via TPE...is tricky. What's mainly out there is the guy a team is happy to DUMP just for the cap $. GSW can't combine..say...Barnes and a $9 mill TPE and get a guy who costs $13 mill...but CAN ...maybe...do a deal for TWO guys where the VALUE is the $9 mill guy (TPE $) to GSW and the FILLER matches Barnes (or Klay) in $.

Help me out with this:
2012 GS trades SJax for Jefferson and a 2012 1st adding Festus and +10 Million to 2013-14 payroll
2013 GS trades Jefferson and 2014 1st for -10 Million to 2013-14 payroll
So essentially this adds up to GS gets Festus in 2012 for the 2014 1st.
Am I missing something? I know its not as simple as stated above but damn GS didn't have to deal with Sjax and got a steal in the 2012 draft. Brilliant FO moves!

It's probably more the 2017 1st for Jefferson - if they only had Biedrins to dump, it almost certainly would have been the 2014 pick used. Also, Fetsus is very good for a #30 pick, but the picks GS gave up will probably be higher than #30 - with an outisde chance of being much higher and far more valuable than Festus.
Either way it shows that teams are valuing 1st round picks much more (aside from the 2013 draft that nobody liked). It used to be ~$3M in extra salary for a late 1st, now it's ~$10M.

Sounds like we've got a 9MM TPE and a 4MM TPE. By my math, the Warriors could take on most of the 9MM TPE while staying under the tax, and the 4MM TPE while staying under the apron. Taking a guy like Gerald Green off Indys hands for picks would be worthwhile because we could use the 4MM TPE and save the larger one for a bigger deal at the deadline.

The Warriors will have two usable TPEs, one for $11.046M and one for $4M. There are two others that are less than $1M each from the deals at the trade deadline and moving Malcolm Lee to the Suns on draft day.
The Warriors, with 14 committed players which includes Bazemore and Machado, are $5.8M below the luxury tax threshold.

We should save those in case of any injury problems.

I believe we have these for a year, but do you guys know how that works? From a timing standpoint, could we in theory use these next year at the onset of Free Agency? If so, i could see us saving these for a team that is desperately trying to get under the cap next year (as we were this year) if they work out a deal with a FA before the offseason officially starts.

I think the $4mil is really only a $3-ish mil TPE as we took back Murphy in the trade.
The TPE is good for 1 year. So it will expire on 7/10/2014.
So the best use at the latest is really the trade deadline.

The Rush TPE will be $4M. Murphy's salary was taken back using the TPE created from the Jenkins trade to the Sixers at the trade deadline.

I could see the Warriors using the 4mil TPE now and I think it is doubtful they will use 11 mil, unless it is next summer. A good problem to have is who they could use to upgrade the roster they could fit in.

Re: Trade Thread (REVENGE OF THE NERDS II: NERDS IN PARADISE
Just out of curiosity, we now have the following based on Statsman's assesment:
-14 players on the roster
-A 4 million TPE
- A 11 million TPE
- Two sub one million TPEs
-Sitting $5.8 million under the lux tax line
Please correct me otherwise.
We still have our Full MLE and mini LE to play with, but if we use those MLEs, we ultimately forgo the TPEs thus making those TPEs dead in the water (no longer usable). It would make sense to stay under the tax line, keep our roster as is, be potential players at the deadline this coming season with our TPEs and possibly acquire picks for future drafts (2015, 2016, 2017, etc.) for dead expiring deals. Again, I'm just digesting what others have commented on earlier in the thread as well as a few other topic threads. Any ideas on who would be a great add come mid season? I know we have talked about Scola and Ridnour, but with a number of teams gunning for the Wiggins sweepstakes, what type of other players may be available? I don't know if they are available, but here's my short list of value players that may be up for grabs via next year's trade deadline:
--Tristin Thompson (slowly emerging PF with great defense and rebounding skills. Kinda reminds me of the Bizzaro World Joe Smith. Joe had some offensive skill and never established an aggressive defensive presence. I think its flipped for Thompson (aggressive on the boards and defense, but timid on the offensive side although he was averaging a double double after the 2nd half of the season). Cavs may be trying to push for the Lebron angle and would love to snag additional cap room, no?
--Ekpe Udoh--We know who he is and what he's capable of. Some have mentioned his name already, but I really think he could play a great role on this squad. He's a much better alternative to Speights or Lee when we need to slow down another team's PF or C on offense.
--Patrick Patterson --Sac traded for him last year, but they are overloaded with PFs on multi year contracts (Thompson and Hayes- both of which haven't had any takers in the trade game yet). Could be a great stretch 4 we need if we shift our second unit or even push to a small ball lineup.
Thoughts?

Those players you listed aren't really the type of players that get moved for pure salary cap purposes.

I am getting conflicting reports about O'Neal's contract. Most early reports had it at $2M, but some, like on HoopsWorld, have him listed at the vet minimum. If the latter ends up being the case, then the Warriors will be $6.9M under the luxury tax threshold rather than $5.8M.
And just to be clear, these numbers are based on Bazemore and Machado being retained, and Jones and Murphy being waived. In the offseason, a team is allowed to have up to 20 players on the roster, so they could be kept around. But after August 1, they all would become guaranteed contracts. It is almost certain that Jones will be waived before August 1. Not sure about Murphy, although I think it is likely.
No More Lottery wrote:We still have our Full MLE and mini LE to play with, but if we use those MLEs, we ultimately forgo the TPEs thus making those TPEs dead in the water (no longer usable).
The full MLE ($5.15M) will be spent on signing Speights ($3.55M) and Douglas ($1.6M). The Bi-Annual exception ($2.016M) will either be spent on signing O'Neal, or it will still be available if O'Neal was signed at the vet minimum. The TPEs are retained even if the MLE/BAE are used. The TPEs can be lost if a team drops below the cap.
It should also be noted since the Warriors acquired a S&T player, they are hard capped at the luxury tax apron, $75.748M, for the entire 2013-14 season. Use of the MLE or the BAE alone also enforces the apron as the hard cap. The apron is $4M above the luxury tax threshold, $71.748M.

So we're somewhere around 10-11m under the apron, most likely? Which means if someone wants to dump a contract later in the year we could use our tpe though we'd have to really like them as they would put us into the luxury tax (doubtful we'd use it).

Pretty much. I doubt the Warriors go into the luxury tax this season, but then again, I didn't think they would maneuver as they did to acquire Iguodala.

I would hold onto the exceptions for emergency reasons....such as an injury to a main piece. So lets see where things are around the middle of the season and then make a move if needed.

Ok, I am throwing this out there.
Trade David Lee for Okafor.
Why, with the current roster, I don't see Lee gettng to take a lot of shots this year. His Off scoring is going to drop. So his value is going to be based on Def, which isn't very high. Okafor is a strong Def, weak Off. He could focus on Off RBDS and passing back out to the shooters. Plus his salary expires at the end of the season, which will free up 15 mil more. I know it is early to be discussing the next season when the current one hasn't happened. But why not plan way ahead. The W's might even be able to get some picks back.
Just a thought!

Noooo. Somebody has to maintain a baseline of scoring when the long jumpers aren't falling. Lee will get plenty of shots. Iggy isn't a massive scorer either.
Plus RAPM.
Small sample size against hobbled and ideal small ball matchup and everyone wants to trade Lee for garbage. Sigh.
