Re: Trade Thread (TRADE WARS EPISODE V: The Empire Strikes Back)
By far the best piece I have read on the repeater tax and how to avoid it:
https://medium.com/@gswreddit/can-the-warriors-duck-under-the-luxury-tax-threshold-to-avoid-the-repeater-tax-167103f7f859
It highlights pretty much the only two trades possible of getting this to work:
"Trades that work without receiving salary back:
1 Player — Kevon Looney ($4,464,286)
3 Players — Jacob Evans + Jordan Poole + Omari Spellman ($5,788,440)
That's about it."
Unless you do variations with Looney + some other player.

A juicy rumour right now is that Pacers are looking to trade Turner.
If we get an expiring with our TPE, then trade that + filler salary (Burks? GR3?) + our pick this year + some other asset they want, we may be able to get him, and he's under contract for 3 more years. Thoughts?

My first thought is wait till the off season. We can't get him now without trading Russell (due to hard cap).
If we must trade for him now...
Russell + Evans --> Minnesota
<whatever Indy can fleece from Minny> ---> Indiana
Turner + TJ Warren----> GSW

I can see this trade for GSW and the Wolves but Indy is having a pretty good year and just got Dipo back. I'm not sure they are looking for a trade unless they have some salary issue I'm not aware of and Minny doesn't have anyone on their roster not named Towns who are better than Turner + TJ.

I don't think we can get Turner + Warren both. Probably just one or the other. I'd like a trade centered around sending Covington to Pacers, DLo to Minny, and Turner + the Minny pick to Warriors.

Russell makes $9m more than Turner. And Turner makes $7m more than Covington. Even if those are the major pieces moving, I don't think its going to work salary cap wise without some other pieces moving around. But if you can figure it out, i'm okay with it. Oh yeah, i'd like to stick Evans with Minnesota just as a tax for me having to read D'Lo to Minny threads all year.

Yeah I know the salary discrepancies, I just named those pieces as the ones central to the trade. I'm sure they can get things to work with a few more moving pieces (maybe McDermott? Culver? etc etc). I'll love Minny forever if they take Evans lol

Re: Trade Thread (TRADE WARS EPISODE V: The Empire Strikes Back)
So I think once Rose gets moved, then Burks might follow somewhere after.
I think teams would covet Rose big time as an add to a playoff team. But the price is steep. So whoever misses out on Rose, might see Burks as a very cheap alternative in comparison.

I’d love to trade for Joe Ingles.

Re: Trade Thread (TRADE WARS EPISODE V: The Empire Strikes Back)
Indy is interesting, they've been hovering around the top of the East all year and just got Oladipo back. Indy really has everything, and they are a dark horse to take the East imo. I noticed how well Turner ranked on a General board poll but the franchise seems higher on Sabonis who just made the all-star team. Not sure how the Pacers feel about Sabonis and Turner playing together.
Would love Joe Ingles, he is perfect for us. Ingles seems like he has voice in the Jazz franchise like Green has with us.

Turner has been ass this year. He's being criminally under utilised right now due the emergence of Sabonis

I still can’t see Indy trading him though, because he is still a big time defensive anchor. Unless he pipes up about wanting a trade, Indy would likely just keep him right?

Re: Trade Thread (TRADE WARS EPISODE V: The Empire Strikes Back)
K...think I got something that would work.
Warriors receive Taj Gibson, Marcus Morris, 2 lottery picks
Wolves get DLO and Jacob Evans
Knicks take Andre Wiggins.
Warriors get very solid roll players....and two lottery level picks.
I think Knicks are desperate to make some sort of splash...and they are known for bad moves so...

RoCo getting interest from Rockets, Marvs and Bucks.....i mean...if he goes to Bucks, that is terrible news for us. How is any teams going to stop them?

Milwaukee's defense is already historically good. I don't think Covington really moves the needle that much for them. The thing that killed them last year against the Raptors was their inability to create offense in late game situations. Covington doesn't fix Giannis' free throw percentage plummeting every year in the playoffs or teams sagging off of him. The Bucks might have won last year if they diversified their late game offense some and / or spammed pick and rolls with Middleton handling and Giannis screening. Another strong secondary ball-handler is a far more significant need than Covington.

Re: Trade Thread (TRADE WARS EPISODE V: The Empire Strikes Back)
Interesting....could the WArriors really be turning down 2 lottery picks in 2020?
"There’s a hold-up: Minnesota isn’t offering enough draft compensation. As it stands, the Warriors have been offered Minnesota’s 2020 first-round pick and Brooklyn’s 2020 first-round pick, which would be sent via Atlanta as part of what is effectively a four-team trade with the Hawks and Rockets. But the Warriors want future firsts instead of picks in 2020—most importantly, they want an unprotected first-round pick in 2021, which will have a much stronger draft class than the one coming this June."
