Will the Warriors regret not trading for Simmons?

It's rare such a player is on the market and expressing an interest in your team. If the Dubs fall just short of a championship expect this to be one of those things that gets brought up over and over as an opportunity that was squandered.

It's no supprise he went for a 40pt Triple against the Jazz last season - Utah has been extra Salty towards Ben since he beat out Spida for ROTY.
The Higher your position the more carefully you should be choosing your words if in Public.

We'll have to watch out when we play the Wolves or Cavs next year

Very few good teams on the vegas odds:

Minnesota Timberwolves +400
Houston Rockets +450
Sacramento Kings +650
San Antonio Spurs +800
Golden State Warriors +800
Toronto Raptors +800
Portland Trail Blazers +1,100
Oklahoma City Thunder +1,400
Washington Wizards +1,600
Cleveland Cavaliers +1,600
Miami Heat +2,500

We're effectively out (odds are from 4 days ago) so that leaves one credible threat of a team on the list, Portland, and that's predicated on a CJ or Lillard trade that probably isnt happening either. Nuggets clocked in at +5000 behind a bevy of other teams so not sure they're on the radar at this time. Either way.. I'm really not worried. I dont think Lacob said anything really offensive, just that we have a ton of payroll and his skillset is extremely similar to Draymond's, and its not one where more = better

The Nuggets rumor popped up a couple day's ago, honestly he may not even be playing anywhere next season.
But if he does - he is the kind of player who doesn't forget any kind of public disrespect, and a motivated Simmons is a very different opponent to a regular Simmons.
Honestly if/when Ben goes off against your team - point the finger at Lacob.

You never know how a player will perceive comments (and Simmons may be feeling "under assault" at the moment to begin with), but Lacob didn't exactly trash him, he even said "he's very talented". Only that the fit with Draymond isn't ideal (true), the ability to finish games with him is questionable (also true), and that he's expensive (quantitatively true). If Simmons is at all realistic he should be able to acknowledge those things as reasonably fair criticisms.

Now that I think about it though, that's probably why Lacob got fined. He could be seen as lowering Simmons' value as a player (although he never mentioned him by name), and decreasing Philly's leverage in negotiations with other teams. Although that's kind of crap too because he didn't say anything about Simmons that wasn't widely acknowledged to be true and there's a good chance that both Simmons and Philly would of course use the prospect of a potential Golden State offer hanging out there to artificially pump the price up.

But anyway, Lacob never did say they're definitively not interested.

no doubt in my mind that at least one poster will bring it up. Aren't you over the moon with the FO after they signed Jordan Bell to a camp invite?

4th quarter offense can be scary with Simmons.

Don't give me that bull. Simmons is not a once in a lifetime player. But hey it's Curry's fault, right? He's too passive according to you.

Once in a lifetime players get run out of town everyday, apparently. Either that or Philly has too many once in a lifetime players and they had to pick their favorites, the selfish bastards. Save some titles for the rest of us!

The Warriors will regret not trading for Ben Simmons at least as much as not trading Klay Thompson for Kevin Love.

According to an avid Sixers fan I know Ben will be best served going to a team that will feature him on offense, because he plays better in all phases when that is true. That pretty much eliminates any currently good team.

Lacob says they don't want Simmons, reducing the perceived market for Simmons. Morey is forced to lower his asking price substantially. Warriors step in and say, oh, since this is your asking price, we're now interested. Warriors get Simmons on the cheap.

I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, but it's not a far-fetched scenario. Tampering isn't just saying nice things about a player.

Yeah, I realized that and addressed it in a followup post. I can see how it could be affecting value. Even though nothing he said was untrue.

There is no reason for Simmons to do anything to increase his value. It's in his best interest to drive his value as low as possible which lowers the trade cost which improves the team he goes to.

He could be telling potential trade partners through his agent that he's all in on whatever plan they have for him while not showing any positive public progress in his game.

It's a pretty petty and twisted game, and my guess is the Warriors are just out on it.

I'm very curious to see how low his value can go. For all the flack we give him, Ben is still 25, a transcendent defensive talent and made the AS and all-defensive first teams just this past year while being the DPOY runner up. I love Wiggins, but that's just not a fair trade on paper even if his value were to plummit.

That said, we're in an age where you can actively torpedo your value and go to any team you want so I guess it wouldn't be insane. His trade ceiling may very well be two future firsts and a nice starter (not fringe AS). I'd actually be surprised if someone gave up more than that.

The topic of this thread is "Do You Now Trade Draymond, Other Pieces/Picks for Simmons Now?" What other pieces are people proposing to package with Draymond for Simmons?

BTW, I am not opposed to the Warriors working on a deal to acquire Simmons, but I also would love to read from the board how Simmons would fit in a Warrior lineup.

Does Simmons play power forward in place of Draymond?

Does Simmons get paired up with Curry in the backcourt?

While I do like the fit of Wiggins as the #3 scoring option and the lockdown wing defender on the Warriors, if the Warriors were to acquire Simmons, I would rather see Simmons play alongside Draymond where Simmons plays as the starting center. In this scenario, the asset(s) the Warriors would have to give up would be Wiggins. Assuming that Otto Porter is healthy and able to log in some serious minutes at small forward, how does the board feel about a proposed trade of Wiggins and Poole for Simmons? Moody would have to step in pretty quickly as a scoring option with this scenario, too.

Speaking of Draymond, what's up with him? Excused absence from Media Day though he was seen the day before in Los Angeles at the Rams-Buccaneers game. Seems like now he'll miss the first few days of camp, more excused absence. Seems odd.
