I had a Twitter exchange with Jay. Here's how it went:

thecity2: @jaycaspiankang FWIW many Warriors fans wanted Curry to sit well before the Ellis trade, due to his ankle problems. He needs to get healthy.

jaycaspiankang: @thecity2 That's fine. It's not just one move. It's the totality of the moves and the arrogance of ownership that bothers me.

thecity2: @jaycaspiankang The totality of the moves has put the Warriors in possibly the best position they've been in 30 years. But ok.

jaycaspiankang: @thecity2 REALLY? THIRTY YEARS? No cap space? Injury prone center who can't score? 4.3% chance at Unibrow? Coach who has never coached?

thecity2: @jaycaspiankang I agree with the coach comment. Not worried about cap space, because we can't sign anybody...

thecity2: @jaycaspiankang It's not about Davis. It's about keeping our pick at all. And yes, THIRTY YEARS. http://t.co/2D55YlM0

silence...

I like how he brought up Bogut not being able to score, when he's playing for the freaking Warriors. That's like calling Chris Paul an "injury prone point guard who can't block shots". Fail.

Yeah, to this day I don't understand how people seem to think Monta was the real loss there. Udoh is the one that stung.

I think Udoh will be easy pickens to bring back after his rookie deal is up, if we still want him. Milwaukee has Larry Sanders, who is cheaper and replicates a lot of what Udoh brings. One of those guys will be gone eventually.

So, I just read the Kang commentary over on Grantland: how does this idiot have a job writing about sports? Sure, we should play Curry until his feet fall off! And the Ellis trade... how dare evil Joe Lacob piss off Monta fans by moving an undersized guard for a legitimately good center, which the franchise hasn't had during my lifetime? Oh, and then he goes easy on the Bobcats, whose entire season has been nothing more than one extended tank! Are all his articles so mindless?

This isn't an ownership tank, this is a Larry Riley tank. He's the one responsible for losing the pick if they end up #8 -#11.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Wait. He gets paid for that? The few articles I've read of his are Bleacher Report quality, albeit more entertainingly written.

Yes. But most people who don't like the trade think the major loss was Ellis. Most people who do like the trade lament losing Udoh because they understand the value of a defensive big.

God...back in the days that we were REALLY REALLY bad...I remember the Warriors would TRY and win in the last week of the season...win 3 out of 5 against teams that don't care anymore...then Gary St Jean or an other loser GM would take it as proof that we had an improved team.

To be fair, I'm not saying Ellis has less value than Udoh. It's just that for diehard Ellis fans, Udoh isn't even on the map regarding that trade, and losing him goes in the opposite direction of what we're trying to do.

I don't think Ellis makes our team worse as some proposed. Our record after the trade shows that, and it's not just cause we're missing Udoh. Keeping either of those guys would have resulted in more wins. Fortunately that's the last thing we needed this season.

There are 5 or 6 shooting guards that could have replaced Ellis from the upcoming draft:

Rivers
Lamb
Waiters
Wroten
Ross
Cunningham

Every year there are high-volume "scorers" who can be found in the draft. Ellis just doesn't have nearly as much value as some Warriors fans thought.

Ellis is much further along than most of these guys (most who won't end up with his production) and he still can take control in situations that helps us win a few games. He has some value-- just not enough without a defensive big. I'd like to see what happens when he gets on a team with a real rim protecting center.

As it is, I'm fine with Klay for now and I think Curry's development will progress now that it's pretty much his team-- assuming the ankle holds.

I'm not a big Monta fan, but I find it really hard to believe that all those guys will be as good as Monta, flaws and all. Each draft only has a handful of good players. Monta's advanced stats have been terrible since We Believe Pt. 2, but I'm still not buying it.

Raptors look like the only hope tonight. Pistons down 30 in the second, Nets down 10 in the second. But then the Nets were up late v the Heat and lost so I'm not holding my breath.

At 40 mpg with LeBron-level usage rate, it's not absurd to suggest most SG's in the league (including all those listed) can score 20-25 ppg...

Raps will take a lead with 2:00 to go just to tease us, then blow it.

Book it.
