That could well be, of course, but according to Jonathan Feigen today, in the Houston Chronicle:

Coach Stephen Silas said Cousins is still his starting center if he’s able to play.

“He’s here in practice,” Silas said. “He’s here for tomorrow’s game and moving forward. I know there’s rumors out there as far as what’s coming ahead, but those are just rumors at this point.

“As far as I know, (Cousins will start Monday against the Bulls).

The trade deadline is still a month away so there's no rush to release him. And if there's a team that wants him, they might be afraid that someone will claim him on waivers--he's only on a minimum contract.

All that being said, it's Houston, so who the heck knows what they will do.

Sure, anything that's added to the total team salary is taxed.

Looks like you're right, after all. Latest news is they tried to find a deal over the weekend, couldn't, so he'll be waived. The hangup may have been that a team who traded, say a 2nd rounder, would have been liable for the full $1.62M cap hit, while if they can sign him after he clears waivers, it will be a pro-rated minimum for the rest of the season. To a team like the Lakers, that is brushing up against the hard cap, that could make a difference. The same is true for claiming him on waivers.

No. We already have a better version of Cook in Lee.

Cook is better shooting off the dribble but Lee has better size to at least try to compete on defense.

Cook isn't a ball handler though for running the offense.
