Was he just playing random runs against local players down there?

With the coronavirus, is that even a good idea?

A few months back, someone reported that the team was concerned that Klay was off on his own in SoCal, rather than staying up here and using the team facilities. That nobody on the team was supervising his rehab.

Even without the risk of infection, he shouldn't be playing against just anyone. And you would think they'd play with the same intensity of the all star game, that is nobody is going full speed and no real intense defense or contact.

He was playing against current and former NBA players according to reports....So not like it was random guys at the YMCA.

I was just numb when I heard the news. I didn't even watch the draft because of it.

So what makes sense to me at the point Klay is ruled out is this.

Go get JK Reddick with the exception. You can still run the same offense with Reddick as you would with Klay. It will hurt defensively, but while Klay is out you still need two guys who can punish teams from range. That opens up lanes for Wiggins and Wiseman.

The Pelicans are going full youth, so JJ should be gettable.

See what the injury is first. A muscle tear would be better than a tendon injury, and might look similar. If the suspicion of the latter is from the GSW camp then it is dire, but I don’t see a great reason why he should tear an Achilles’ tendon per se, unless his iron horse endeavours for GSW over the last 5 years have frayed him totally physically.

You didn't miss much. It was all downhill after the Wiseman pick. A lot of watching other teams make great moves, other teams sign solid undrafted players, etc. When you see a Desmond Bane fall to 30th and then get sent from Boston to Memphis for two future second round picks a few hours after you lost your starting shooting guard, it makes you question your entire front office.

What in the sweet butt plugs happened here!? Is this serious? I had to work all day today so missed all of this.

Seriously, achilles?

That's a nice call....Reddick is a vet and can plug in with similar level of shooting. Clearly not the defensive side but hey....

I could see also trying for Rudy Gay and putting him at AF and Wiggins at guard.

like to try and be positive...hard to find a silver lining here. But Poole could break out....Paschall will get more run and he's got some offensive power for sure.

BTW...and I know this sounds bad...but timing helped that it happened before Friday with the FA opening.

Reddick is still nice especially for a plug in shooter but I still have my opinions about really small backcourts especially with concerns about Wiseman's lateral movement.

Gotta think Oubre is a no brainer at this point. He's not really a 3 pt specialist but he's only turning 25 in a couple of weeks and still has plenty of upside on both ends.

Prayers for Klay, i'm still at lost for words and holding out hope it wasn't a full tear :(

Anyone know if Net's got any compensation for Durant being out? Any salary relief or salary slot opened by the NBA? Wondering if (in the worse case) the NBA grants the Warriors some flexibility to try and recoup from missing Klay for a full season?

Just a complete bummer. My daughter suffered 2 ACL tears as a teenage soccer player so I got to see firsthand how frustrating for someone to go through the emotional spectrum of that sort of injury, work your way back, and then get set back again before you even really get to get going again. And she wasn't a pro athlete. Honestly I can deal with some down years after what they've delivered us the last few but it sucks knowing that we may never see this back court together in their prime again. Completely took the momentum out of the draft too.

There's the Disabled Player Exception, which for a Max Player is a little more than 9mil. There are steps:
1)Doctor has to rule out the player for the year.
2)A Committee has to rule on the eligibility of the player for the DPE.

If they rule yes on Klay, if he's indeed out for the year, which we hope he's not, then the team will have to decide if they use it or not because the tax bill on that salary will be enormous since we are in the tax.

So, there's a shot for another player if he's out for the year. Not sure how long it will take for the all the machinations to finish before/if it's granted.

100% against giving up any future picks..we’re way closer to needing a rebuild if there’s bad news today than we are a championship

Yea, that is my one concern about going after Oubre. Will at least require our pick next year, l although we could probably lottery protect it.

Another option would be to go after Fournier who may not cost a first.

Fournier or Reddick would be a great one year replacement for Klay. Reddick would be the more feasable option though. I hope Poole really comes around this year, although he played better as a point than a shooting guard last year.

So shouldn't we have heard by now the results of the MRI?

I don't expect good news but lets get it over with.

Without Klay, we're basically Phoenix.

Agreed 100%.

Reddick has been a decent team defender, and his movement off the ball is as close to Steph and Klay as any player in the league.

He’s obviously not in the long term plans for the Pelicans, so there could be a deal to be had.
