Nah. It takes a few years for bigs to reach close to their final form. If his confidence is shot coming out the gate his whole game will suffer, and maybe he doesn't recover for 50 games.

Na..KG it was obvious..Webber it was obvious..Hakeem it was obvious..Olowokandi it was obvious..Joe Barely Cares it was obvious..Embiid it was obvious..AD it was obvious...etc etc etc ...I can go right down the line..72 thru 20..I’ll know after 30 games

I agree. You know what kind of talent these guys have IF they are going to be really good. If they are going to be franchise level talents then we'll know it pretty soon. It can be as simple as dribbling through several players ending in a thunderous dunk. It can be snatching rebounds over traditional bigs...

I think it's about seeing some form of dominant ability...

Assuming he'll be swallowing up rebounds...I'm calling him Jaws.

KG averaged 13ppg and 8rpg per 36 as a rookie on 52% TS...not exactly setting the world on fire right out the gate

It wasnt obvious with dirk, giannis

I do think we will have a pretty good idea of the type of player wiseman is half way through the season though. If he is a blue chip guy, he should be putting up good per minute stats and should be showing flashes regularly even if the minutes are not there right away.

Disagree on Giannis. I watched nearly every Bucks his rookie year after seeing highlights of his preseason debut. The skill level was apparent on day 1. The majority of people did not watch Bucks basketball and would assume he was an athletic freak who dunked on people ala Anthony Randolph. That was always a reductionist take. All you needed to do was watch a whole Bucks game that year to see Giannis was special and that he had an impressive feel for the game.

In regards to Wiseman, that doesn't seem to be the case. I hope he turns out to be a special player, but special players show spontaneous genius and high levels of creativity as rookies and I just don't think Wiseman has the ability to read the game like that. Can it be developed? Sure. And it's not terribly important for C's to have those creative juices, but I just don't see his ceiling being much more than prime DeAndre with a three point shot. That's a fine player! But I do think we'll be lucky if Wiseman can play more than 15 minutes a game this year.

And it took Embiid 3 years to play 246 games into his career to get to 30 games played. Stud or no?

It took Dennis Rodman 5 years before he went into training camp as an expected starter.

It took Kobe Bryant 3 years before he went into training camp as an expected starter.

It took Kevin Garnett 2 years before he went into training camp as an expected starter.

It took Kyle Lowry 5 years before he went into training camp as an expected starter and a few past that to become a star on his 3rd team.

Paul Millsap 5 years.
JJ Reddick 9 years.

You might not consider all of them studs, but certainly some of them were, and several players don't really take off until they are on their 2nd team.

It may be clear someone is going to be a stud early, but it's possible they could be a stud without showing it immediately too.

Giannis averaged 41% from the field as a rookie..his last 20 games or so as a rook his field goal percentage was 37% ..you may have saw something but it wasnt entirely "obvious" nor could you call him a surefire all star at that point.

It took him 2- 3 seasons to start putting up all star numbers. He wasnt a star out of the gate.

I recall folks being all excited about Jokic while I (having not seeing a Nuggets game) being confused why everyone was so excited about the 2nd rounder as opposed to the guy they took in the 1st (Nurkic).

Think its pretty apparent. Dudes rarely look lost and then all of a sudden are studs.

Jokic was the 41st pick and fat.

Gobert was picked 27 and nobody was excited about him other than his length.

Exactly. Yet halfway thru their first season folks were super excited about them. It doesnt take long.

How about Bam? I don't recall too many people thinking he was an all star after his first season.

Lots of comparisons to Shawn Kemp including by other coaches and fans wishing Spo would let him loose. Anyone else?

I loved Blazers Jermaine O’Neal, although I really liked several young blazers of the era including Bonzi Wells. And I think it wasnt until a few years in when i saw much of him. But you may have finally one...

So had to go back, what 25 years or so?

Regardless, I think all of us can agree once we watch wiseman a few times, we will know what type of player he is. I dont think theres a chance we think he is trash as a rookie and then he comes back as a soph or his third year and kills it. We would have seen it coming.
