This guy could be like Speights with better defense, love the pick up.

Love the pickup because Jones just wasn't getting it done, even in Summer League and this is dudes 3rd year. Spellman has all the potential, just needs a better diet. Have Draymond take him under his wing and train him the right way, post All-Star break Draymond that is.

Draymond can show Omari the diet he used to lose 20+ pounds in about 6 weeks after the All Star break. Or maybe Steph can get Ayesha to prepare some low-cal meals for him!

I wanted to draft him last off season, so I’m happy with this trade.

It seems a very good trade to me. Spellman had an interesting rookie season, while we had no use for Damian Jones. I don't think you could hope for anything better from trading Jones. Well done Myers.

The only real value Jones provided was being a 7-footer so he could spell Looney when another big was overpowering him. And he could run and catch lobs. WCS now provides all those things as well as the ability to defend the PnR so Jones became redundant. Spellman adds another dimension by providing a stretch 5 than can also play the 4, unlike Jones. Good move, Mr. Myers!

Looking at him in photos you would think he's slow but he seems to be pretty spry and has a really quick release on his jumpshot

This was the previous years Draymond. So now we have Draymond and two guys compared to Draymond, meaning they are power forwards on the husky side who can shoot a 3 occassionally while being phyiscal on the interior defense with some shot blocking.

Think he brings some of that Mo Speights game with the ability to be a big 4 stretch 5.

I think this move will free up enough cap to do another vet min signing.

Nooo idea why the Hawks would do this.. but fantastic trade. Would be surprised if he doesnt finish many games as the small ball center.

How far of going below the tax are the Warriors currently? I would have thinked Meyers wanted to go there to reset the repeater taxes and dropping Jones for a minimum player would have cleaned 1M.

They are below the apron but above the luxury tax threshold. Only a trade of someone like Draymond or DLo later this season for less returning salary can get them out of the luxury tax.

Hawks fans say Spellman has weight control issues.

It's the only reason why we had the chance of getting him for that package. I'll take my chances hoping that he can get this under control. If he can, this is a great pick-up. If he can't, so be it – a late 2nd and an unplayable Jones aren't a loss.

Spellman says so too.

Don't discount getting an additional $407K under the apron from this deal. In addition, the Warriors get to decide on up to two more years on Spellman's rookie contract, while the Hawks will need to deal with Jones' QO and being a RFA next offseason.

According to the GB they challenged him to lose weight and he came back even fatter so I'm guessing that was a big part of it.

I didn't realize Spellman was teammates with Paschall on the 2018 Villanove national championship team.
