Yeah, it's not like NBA players are exposed to large amounts of people /s

The Warriors should send all their anti-vax players to Oklahoma where they belong.

First, there was Kyrie and his flat earth conspiracy. Now, there's Baze and his vaccine conspiracy. :banghead: Under the collective bargaining agreement, disputes between players and either their teams or the league are handled by an arbitrator - not in court. The league can (and probably will) fine Baze's ass every single game he refuses to take the vaccine. If he wants to persist in his stupidity, he'll go to arbitration, he'll lose and end up in the Covidiot Hall of Shame.

The league better do some education and/or mandates.

Wiggins: “I don’t really see myself getting it anytime soon,” Wiggins said, “unless forced to, somehow.
LeBron has not announced his plans, saying he considers the vaccination decision a “private thing.”

It basically means you can hang with other vax people or small groups freely. But in your example, even if you were vaccinated you could spread it to the at risk folks.

EDIT: Just checked and that is accurate. But it's worth noting that we don't know what we don't know. E.g. it COULD stop asymptomatic carriers, but we simply don't have the data.

We have data from Israel, 94% reduction in asymptomatic infections:

Pfizer said its Covid-19 vaccine blocked 94% of asymptomatic infections in an Israeli study — a result CEO Albert Bourla called “extremely important.”

The study also found the vaccine was at least 97% effective against symptomatic Covid cases, hospitalizations and deaths, the company said.

Some Lakers are getting to jump the line, along with team employees and their families.

Vaccine hesitancy is said to be greatest in some populations of people of color, including African-Americans.

NBA stars rejecting vaccines would hurt the effort to convince African-Americans to get vaccinated.

The black community in general has a hesitancy to trust the government saying they should get injected with something, a belief well-founded on historical treatment of them as unwitting test subjects.

Political opposition to the vaccine will be difficult to overcome, but we need a huge education and outreach effort to address the concerns of those who are reluctant to take the vaccine because of safety and other concerns. That is especially true for the black community. NBA players have the opportunity to be leaders in this, but that first requires educating THEM. The league needs to get on this, now.
If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.

Silver is to blame. He okayed it of not requiring vaccinations.

One thing that's difficult is until the vaccines get formal FDA approval instead of just EUA, employers would be on tougher legal ground to mandate it.

I think the league, the Biden admin, nike, etc should really have Lebron get a vaccine on tv to help persuade people. Kent is small potatoes and there's probably a sizeable portion of the league, like the country who feels the same. If the GOAT doesn't support it, who cares about Baze.

It's true that the federal gov't can't mandate vaccines because, as you say, that's prohibited for emergency use authorized vaccines. But, from the CDC site, "However, whether a state, local government, or employer, for example, may require or mandate COVID-19 vaccination is a matter of state or other applicable law."

For instance in California, the latest guidance from the Department of Fair Employment and Housing on Covid-19 vaccination policies says, "Can employers require their employees to be vaccinated? The short answer is yes, so long as the employer adheres to the requirements of the Fair Employment and Housing Act." The requirements are basically that the employer accommodate religion and medical conditions.

So, you're right, it would be difficult from a league-wide perspective, but I think most teams would be able to. Each state law would have to be checked.

I mean they've injected around 130 million people now. And Biden raised his target to 200 vaccination shots in his first 100 days and he's over 60 days already.

So they're expecting a ton of vaccine supply. CA just announced everyone can get vaccine on 4/15.

It would make no sense if they didn't give full FDA approval after injecting hundreds of millions of doses.

On Wiggins not wanting to get the vaccine:

"Andrew Wiggins finally found a shot he won't take."

"Wiggins doesn't like to take high-percentage shots."

Getting vaccinated is a patriotic act. When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, did Americans curl up into a fetal position and say "We're too scared to fight back." Of course not. They rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated against polio. But this "emo" generation isn't like that. They're all too busy taking selfies on their neighbor's lawn to actually get out there and do something productive. Time to put on your big boy pants, cowboy up and do the right thing!

lmao why you gotta do him like that!?

At least it fits his pattern of not really showing up when it matters most.

When in doubt on a particular scientific issue, I would tend to follow the advice of those whom I consider more intelligent in general then myself. A few people I admire off the top of my head whom I follow on twitter are-

Richard Dawkins
Neil Degrasse Tyson
Brian Cox

The latter two are astrophysics mind you, but scientific minds none the less.

I don't care. People can make their own choices.

Not so sure that Neil Degrasse Tyson should be held up as a role model. He's been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, including rape.

This dumbass is going to miss a week or maybe more.

Lee is also in protocol but says he was vaccinated.

If Curry or Green goes into protocol with the dozen remaining games or so ...

Lee must have only had his first shot, or maybe it hadn't been two weeks since his second, since it sounds like he tested positive.
