I think they were looking ahead with this move. We probably won't be able to retain DDV in the summer.

Feel like we're missing the OPJ role more than the GP2 role and we didn't address that. Don't get me wrong, I like GP2 and I'm glad he's back on the team but I don't have a good feeling for our trajectory the rest of the year, I think we're heading for the play-in at best and that's even assuming Steph isn't out a long time.

Well I'm not sure GPII on his own is going to be enough now that other teams in the West have gotten stronger... but we at least are headed in a positive direction. Gone is a bust who didn't play, back is a lock-down defender whose impact metrics were EYE POPPING last season.

I still believe our core guys have what it takes do it... I won't give us a high % chance to repeat, but to me this move gives us an actual chance now. I was not digging our defense so far this year.

2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5 (61.1% TS)
2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3 (68.0% TS)

Basically Wiseman for Payton. Not the sexiest move, but we know Payton fits here like a glove, so to speak lol. Wiseman was just not going to contribute this season, barring multiple injuries up front.

I think the ultimate top option was OG, but this is a good next option. They needed another rotation piece somehow. 2 additional seasons under contract for reasonable $ was a bonus. They could, in theory, revisit OG in the summer.

They don't play the same positions anyway. DDV plays guard roles for us. GPII plays undersized PF and C as a screen role man.

GP2 missed 40 games would have not made big difference 1st half of season

Finding minutes for a guy who plays outstanding defense and works well within the system shouldn't be a problem.

LOL. I'm kinda thinking that too.

Still...I love getting GP2 back.

He'll take all of the Lamb minutes, for starters.

And also pretty awful that the #2 pick ended up getting us... literally nothing. We drafted him, then 3 years later he's gone for nothing. Just an awful pick lol

So... you're glad we got Payton, and sad we got nothing. How does that work?

Wiseman for Payton (with some financial benefits). Not horrible, given how things transpired. A bit disappointing. I still won't be surprised if Wiseman ends up being much more valuable than that, but it will likely take some time, and I can understand trading him for a benefit in the present.

Yup agreed. All I was saying is that I'm happy we pulled the plug on the Wiseman experiment by bringing back a player that was great on our team. But also acknowledging just how awful the wiseman experience was. Hope he has a good career in Detroit.

Well... you did also say we got literally nothing for Wiseman LOL If I just pretend you didn't say that, then I more or less agree. I think Wiseman will be quite good someday, but I'm fine not waiting around to find out, given where we are as a franchise.

So GP2 can't wear #0 anymore since DDV has it right now.

Of course he isn't. The Warriors are still too light in the middle.

Let's just be happy he's back. Heaven help us if LOON sustains an injury. :noway:

Love the move though.

Players should pick some weird number like 74, you'll never have to change it. I never understood the obsession with numbers 50 and under.

Uhm...was this the cheaper option than simply signing him at the end of last season?

Great move for the Dubs. Defense should improve quite a bit and the best part he already know the system so it won't take him long to get up to speed.

Plus GP2 is a known fit on the team.

It has to do with the number of fingers on both your hands. Presumably. I've never seen your hands. Most players have numbers that a ref can easily signal on their two hands, but clearly it isn't a hard and fast rule.
