Wright has this bad habit of boxing out. Turiaf has this bad habit of going after every block shot. both could rebound better and we need them to.

but it's even more clear that we need 2 bigs on the floor if we're gonna box out and also block shots.

I agree in some respects, all these discussions should be balanced. But it's difficult to do around here when one side continually goes overboard. CPH you make fair points in trying to balance things but, now to try and add some additional balance, Maggette at 6-15 shot only 40% (those don't include the ones he was fouled on). I guess you could say he had a good shooting night (considering his season average is probably less than that). 37% is unacceptable for a volume shooter.

As for Biedrins, how can you say he had a terrible first half when he had 5 boards in just 8 minutes the first quarter and didn't play at all in the 2nd? Maybe not great, but not terrible either.

Corey "Magnetic", as in, the ball never left his hands once he gets them.

   @ Bad Porn.... Corey "Bad Porn" Maggette....

Maggette and Buke are peas in a pod... they score, thats all, and when they aren't in the lineup, we somehow improve... go figure... wacky coincidences all over the place...

Anyone else remember the 4 game bliss of no Maggette? And the 2 games this year w/o Buke? We saw ball movement... team defense... those 2 need to Marbury'd as quick as possible...

re: Maggette's shooting. I didn't say it was good, I just said it was hardly the reason we lost last night. Small sample sizes; he was 6-15. If one more of those had gone down, this argument would fall apart, and if two had, he would have had a great shooting night by most standards. And they didn't go in, but the point is that his offense isn't why we lost by a long shot.

re: how I can say Biedrins had a bad first half. Because I was sitting 30 feet from him watching him make the same mistakes he made on the road trip. There is a reason he played so few minutes in the first half. He was missing shots he usually makes, bobbling balls he usually catches, and so on. In the second half he was much more focused, and looked like the old Goose we all know and love. And I just double checked myself to make sure I wasn't adding to the hyperbole: I didn't say he had a terrible first half, and in fact, I didn't even say he had a bad first half. I said he was pretty out of it.

Face it, you guys have fallen for the demonization job put forth by our resident propoganda masters. Whoever they hate, you hate and whoever they love, you love. Think about it.

You do realize that randy is a rookie rite? Hell, hes lucky just to get playing time and you're complaining about him already? Wow.

Here's something to think about when we try to put Maggs scoring ability and defensive nightmarishness into perspective. Check out his opponent counterpart and Net production numbers.
http://www.82games.com/0809/08GSW9.HTM
Maggs is consistenly outscoring his counterpart by about 2 points per game, yet he loses the per matchup badly. Now we all know that the by position stats can get kind of fuzzy with the W's, but

#1 we learned last year that 82 games actually watches and charts the statistics they track, so it's not based on deducing all this from boxscores. They are counting what actually happened.

#2 Nellie said he pays attention to and values some of their work in tracking these non-boxscore stats.

and

#3 Maggs has been one Warrior player who hasn't been asked to cross matchups very much. When he's playing SF, he has been matched up on the opposing SF, when he's been at PF he's been matched up on the opposing PF. The by position stats do mean something here.

It says something important when a 20ppg scorer gives up as just as much as he contributes. When you look past the scoring, he's getting hammered in PER by his bogey. You have to throw out the SG & C minutes, because they are so minimal. But as a PF and a SF, he has been a net victim, even while putting up 20ppg and getting to the foul line at will.

Thoughts?

One thought is that 82games is cool. But we knew that :-) That is good data that backs up what a lot of people here believe to be true. For what it is worth, I don't think it contradicts anything I've been trying to say here, though. If anything it supports it: bash Maggette for his defense. It is an easy and legitimate target. But trying to suggest that Maggette screwed us last night because he stifled ball movement is just shuffling deck chairs. On the *offensive* end, he did much more good than harm. He just undid it all at the other end.

Maggette is definitely one of our most athletic players, and he can score. But the same effort he puts forth, trying to score, and talking excessively to reffs I'd just personally like to see on the defensive end as well.

I don't blame him for not passing the ball, he's done that his whole career, we signed him not to pass it essentially...unless someone claims we didn't have a fair scouting report on him before we signed him...

We we saw his whole career is what we got..he's even been injured already. So it is what it is with him. At least he can score, some players can't even do that.
