I think the concern that is really being discussed is who is playing the other positions.

If a lineup is like Evan mentioned: Steph / White / Klay / Dray / Poeltl... that is a dominant defensive lineup so i'm not sure where the concern of Klay at the SF spot would be in that scenario.

Can you imagine Klay having to go up against the likes of Giannis or Durant in a Finals series? He'd be eaten alive. If you're going this route, you've got to acknowledge that it'll get you to the playoffs but it won't win you a championship.

Outside of being switched onto players like that occasionally (which will obviously happen for every position), why would Klay be spending most of his time guarding Giannis or Durant?

Giannis is a PF/C
Durant is primarily a PF, who plays some SF/C depending on the rotations

Super hard disagree on this one. Klay cannot play the SF position in our system for very long, he's done it in death lineups for the majority of that time. But our SF position, dating back to 2016 (and probably before) when player tracking first started, travels the most distance by far on our team. It has been someone long, athletic and rangy dating back to Iguodala/Barnes. Klay is only behind Steph in terms of recovery speed, not to mention how taxing that position would be on his reconstructed legs.

Klay at SF is an entire non-starter for me.. he's smart/experienced enough on-ball to keep him there, and when he eventually starts to crack, lower him into the high 20s for minutes and start staggering him and Steph more

Well Mob Byers, Old Blue, and FNQ have me 2nd guessing my stance on this now...

Doesn't seem like Warriors are as concerned with Klay at the 3 if they are legitimately after Beal. Although there are various rotations that can easily split the minutes where Klay is still seeing a ton of time at the 2.

Digging into the minutes data I was looking at, the year Klay "played" the most 3 was 2015/16 and that is showing all Livingston minutes at the 1/2 and Brandon Rush minutes mostly at the 2.... pretty sure in those scenarios Klay was still playing his normal roles on both ends and Shaun/Rush would have been taking the SF role.

And you think Wiggins helps with that?

The bottom line is it's always going to be Draymond that gives us any chance against those kinds of guys.

Klay has to play the 3 going forward. He's not going to be quick enough to stay in front of 1s and 2s anymore. But he does have the strength and length to handle most 3s and even 4s in the league.

TB don't second guess yourself. It is obvious that Klay can and probably should bump up to 3. I mean imagine we draft Moses Moody. That's exactly what would happen in Steph/Moody/Klay lineups.

People around here think Wiggins won DPOY or something. He's fine, but he isn't some irreplaceable All-NBA defender no matter how much this crowd wants him to be. Oh wait. Sorry he got one vote from Fitz.

But were they? Seems like they were always loosely connected at best and while Beal hasnt said one way or another if he wants to stay or not, the whole Beal thing kinda blew over fast. Dot-connecting between the Warriors big 3 wanting help, and Draymond being paired up with a guy who, by all common sense, should be available for trade. In an offseason where there simply aren't any stars who fit what we really need

So hang on. Not only are we gonna put Klay, misser of last 2 offseasons, coming off an Achilles injury that came off an ACL injury, in the scrambler role on our defense, we would put Moody - the ideal person for that role - in Klay's old role?

Or is this simply by height and not by role?

Or do you just hate Klay and want to see him injured?

Reading this brings back all the pain we all felt last Draft Day.

And you think if GS drafts Moody or Bouknight, they will immediately start next to Curry and bump KT to play 3?

I honestly don't think we'd see much of that lineup and if we did Moses would be the 3 as he has a bit more length than Klay. Also would likely be a small ball/death lineup type deal with Curry/Klay/Moody/Wiggins/Green. He's shown he can guard 3's and some 4's(struggled a bit at times but has since added 15lbs, should help). Moses' size is more comparable to Andre than Klay.

Barring a trade or injury, whoever we draft isn’t going to start. Our starters are going to be the obvious ones - Curry/Klay/Wiggins/Draymond/Looney (or Wiseman, if he earns it). At least, once Klay is healthy enough to start.

Ugh....why are we even discussing 7th pick players as starters in our lineup? :(

I mean...you're just being obtuse at this point. If we drafted Moody presumably it meant we still have Wiggins. I'm talking about lineups with Klay and Moody where Moody is coming off the bench. It's not hard to imagine. Or maybe it is for some of you. I don't know.

Literally doesn't answer the question at all.

I took issue with the idea of Klay taking the SF role defensively if/when Moody is on the court. I explained why. You said "But we still have Wiggins, obtuse man".. you see where the disconnect is?

Draymond is a better helper than he is on ball. He’s not guarding Kd for an entire game

I still think the best scenario is not making any big trades, while also not relying on the 7/14 to be top 8 rotation guys. So this basically means Bob would need to nail his FA's and make sure we get a couple of the vets like Rose/Mills/Batum/Otto/Gay/Bullock etc etc.

Klay at SF as a steady diet is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention he won't even be playing the first two to three months of the season, and no doubt easing into things after that. He can't just be automatically slotted in because it looks good on paper.

You really have to prepare for next season as if Klay isn't available anyway. It's doubtful he's going to available to start the season and even when he does return it's going to take quite a while to play himself into shape and regain the muscle memory lost. I wouldn't even be contemplating moves that depend him him playing a specific position at this point.

Think thats way out of our price range for the 7. My guess is that MEM is willing to let go of some cost-controlled role players and the 10, and thats about it. Which makes sense, we both have team needs that can only exclusively be met by each other:

We're probably the only team in the top 8 that will listen to a MEM offer, meanwhile there probably isnt another team in the top 12 that would be willing to give cheap, cost-controlled, solid rotational players to just move up to 7. So there should be some mutual interest, but we definitely wont be trading down until we're up at 7.

Agreed. I know KA is a pipe dream, but I'd take Bane and/or Tillman to drop to 10.

I definitely think Giddey is a smokescreen for the Grizz. My initial thought was that the trade up was for Moody, but they have Grayson and Bane, who do similar things. The above tweet about Franz makes more sense and if they want to move up for Franz they have to get in front of the Kings so they really only have us and the Magic to do so. Franz is really the only one that is set to be taken at 9 whereas pretty much everyone else is kind of fluid.
