"The Sacramento Kings have been ‘trying very hard’ to trade Malik Monk this offseason, but they haven’t found a taker, an NBA source told Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal ..."

Some posters took a lot of flak for not wanting the Kuminga S&T with the Kings for Monk and a heavily-protected first. It has been reported for a while that the Kings have had trouble moving Monk. He's a mediocre starter and an overpaid 6th/7th man.

I think it takes an unprotected first just to take on Monk's contract, unless the Kings are taking back a similarly bad contract. Even if the Kings would offer Monk and an unprotected first for Kuminga, I would pass. The Warriors would basically be giving Kuminga to the Kings for nothing.

I can't think of a S&T in the NBA that involved a RFA.

Do you know of one and what the return was?

If there was one, it may have involved some minor player. I seem to recall Bogdan Bogdanovic being discussed in 2020 as a possible S&T from the Kings to the Bucks as a restricted free agent, but a deal couldn't be worked out. The Hawks ended up submitting an offer sheet that the Kings declined to match.

Restricted free agency prior to the 2023 CBA probably didn't go down this path very often. Teams knew there would be offer sheets if they didn't re-sign their RFA players. Some of the time, teams would let the offer sheets be signed so that they could match (or not match, as the example above).

In the past, BYC issues made a S&T of restricted free agents difficult. Now, with the apron rules, it is much more difficult. Without the apron rules put forth in the 2023 CBA, I'm willing to bet the Warriors would have worked out a S&T deal with Kuminga if they didn't come to an agreement on a contract. Without those apron rules, Horford would have been signed weeks ago.

At this point, I wonder what Beasley's value is with most teams committed to salary.

If I'm Brooklyn, I'm trying to sign Beasley just to trade him during the season to acquire some more assets vs take on additional salary for a 2nd like they did for Highsmith although they'll probably trade him for another asset during the season once he proves he's back near 100% from his knee surgery.

WT story says Warriors have expressed interest in trading for Trey Murphy.

WTF, they passed over him twice in the draft.

If they drafted him, he probably wouldn't have gotten more minutes than Moody and Kuminga has so far.

What a pipe dream. I’d send out Moody/Podz/TJD/28 1st unprotected for just Trey

Hope JK takes the QO. Sign Horford, Melton, Curry, GP2, Brogdon, and Martin

Curry/Brogdon
Melton/Buddy/Curry
Murphy/Martin/Santos
Jimmy/JK/GP2
Green/Horford/Post

All just fantasy for this boring ass offseason

Loved Trey in that draft!

Would be great if true but I doubt it happens.

Saw they have mutual interest with Cody Martin as well.

Murphy is the one I was advocating during the draft. And as I've said before, say it again and will say it for the end of times, Lacob singlehandedly prevented Curry from possibly winning another title with the most egregious (as it turned out) 3 lotto pics. I wanted Haliburton, Wagner and Murphy, simply three most NBA ready players when they were drafted. And while Moody (see Murphy) pick would not have been guaranteed at 14 if they selected anyone useful instead of Wiseman the year before, the Wiseman / JK selections spots were guaranteed.

That's a tweak in the current CBA, that a player has to clear waivers by Aug 31. Before they just had to be waived by Aug 31.
