Murphy would have been a better pick than Kuminga and all but maybe 2 or 3 players in the draft. So yeah. Just like LaMelo would have been a much better pick than Wiseman except that was obvious even at the time. Murphy wasn’t as obvious.

Good on you if you had Murphy ahead of Moody pre-draft. If you had that, by all means you should talk it up. If you didn’t have that then kick rocks.

Moodys problem is that he’s slow as molasses and only average at both shooting and defending. That’s a problem when you are sold as a 3&D guy. Funny we haven’t seen Clyde here pumping him up lately.

Is it me or has Moody's shot release become slower and slower? His shot has been blocked too many times lately.

It ain’t you brother. The league keeps getting faster and and faster and he stays the same.

Murphy was a much better shooter coming out. It really wasn’t close. I’m not sure what moody did better as a prospect tbh.

he needs to find his threes...shooting like 35% is not going to cut it or stay in rotation

Uh, he was like 3 years younger? Murphy came on strong in his 3rd year. We've seen that show before and most of those guys it was just an outlier season (Davion Mitchell ring a bell)? If you follow the draft closely, which I'm pretty sure you don't, you most likely wouldn't have been as high on TMIII as you are now. Hindsight is always easier.

The big difference between Davion’s shooting and Murphy’s shooting was the ft shooting. Trey was always a great ft shooter.

This is all hindsight bro. You don’t even follow the draft. I’ve literally never seen a single post in the draft forum.

Re: Is Moses Moody an NBA caliber player?
Regarding free throw shooting it was on very very low volume. That alone was a red flag for a wing like him. He looked very one-dimensional with low ft rate and hardly any passing. Anyone can go back and cherry pick stats now. But at the time unless you were in on him I don’t want to hear that bull now.

So the Onus is on Onus to show us his analysis *at the time* that he liked Murphy more than Moody. If Onus can do that I’ll give my proper respect. Until then shut it.

Re: Is Moses Moody an NBA caliber player?
It’s funny how this thread keeps coming up. People go from deciding he’s part of the young core to he’s not an nba player seemingly by a whim. Either he is or isn’t an nba player. You should have made up your minds by now.
To me he’s obviously an nba player and whether it’s here or somewhere else he’ll be in the league for a long time. He’s still 21 and has years left of development physically and mentally.

Re: Is Moses Moody an NBA caliber player?
Good teams have somebody that deserves to play 20 minutes a game only playing 10 minutes per game.
Podz is bad news for Moody’s minutes. I don’t feel like giving Klay’s minutes to Moody. I am not sure about giving Payton’s minutes to Moody. When Dray comes back Kuminga may take small forward minutes from Moody. Podz is energizing more than Moody. Don’t want to give Podz minutes to Moody.
Don’t see the point in trading Moody. I would have traded Moody and a first round pick for a center before Trayce emerged but now that does not seem so important.
If Moody gets Payton’s minutes then Payton is the guy not getting playing time that he deserves.
Can Moody wait 2 years for Klay to retire?

Re: Is Moses Moody an NBA caliber player?
You don't have to have followed the draft or have been studying these players since they were 15 or whatever.
People are asking how the Warriors chose a smaller player (though with a 7-foot wingspan) over a player who shot better in college.
And those attributes have played out in the pros. As rookies, Murphy played 13.9 vs. 11.7 MPG for Moody. Murphy shot 39.3/38.2 and Moses shot 43.7/36.4.
In their second years, Murphy played over 31 MPG while Moody went up to 13 MPG. Murphy shot 48.4/40.6 and Moody shot 47.6/36.3. I think the Pelicans had injuries so Murphy's role expanded and he got far more shot attempts, approximately triple that of Moody.
This season, Murphy has leveled up, all his numbers are better, though he's only played 10 games and 26.5 MPG. Moody is up to 18.8 MPG but his 3P% is down to 33.1 so far.
Moody is making small improvements in each stat category as he gets more numbers.
One place where he struggles is processing what to do when he gets the ball. A lot of looks he doesn't take because he's being closed out. He sometimes attacks closeouts but not often enough. A couple of times last night vs. Portland he dribbled in and pulled up for a midrange and made them.
A development coach should be drilling him on types of shots that plays to his strength. For instance for a big man, it might be a jump hook with either hand. For a PG, it might be tear drops if he can't get all the way to the rim consistently.
It seems with Moody, he hasn't found a shot other than the catch and shoot 3 that he will go to repeatedly. He can drive to the basket, maybe do a couple of hesitation dribbles to get the defender to slow up and then use his length to lunge to the basket when the defender has relaxed. You see SGA do that a lot.
Or develop some midrange pull ups so that defenders have to contest those and that opens up the drive to the basket.
But a lot of times, he doesn't take the shot nor does he attack the closeout. He passes it back out to the outside.
He's also had the ball swiped out of his hands so his handle has to get tighter.
In his one year in college he supposedly drew a lot of fouls so it remains to be seen if his game in the NBA could evolve to something similar.
