Umm, yeah, we kind of need to Wolves to maybe get a win soon. It's hilarious, but it's getting out of hand here.

It's really in our best interest for the Wolves to have the worst record, or just be as bad as possible since the odds don't really change too much in our favor when it comes to keeping that pick. Rather than treading the line, I'm just not going to stress about it more than just hoping the Wolves are bad.

lol nah not just you

i honestly have no idea about the players in the draft, my entire board would be based on name coolness and facial expressions which i'm told is not a foolproof system.. I'm solely thinking about trade value

But if we keep this up, we might not need a star, we could settle for a few well placed role players that wouldnt cost as much. Still early and still riding high from a near flawless game, but we're a very gutsy team and itll be fun to see if we make the playoffs or not

yeah, reading their board makes me feel bad for them. They are already souring on Edwards with some zingers like this

Outside of feeling sorry for Wolves fans, it really does help GS for Minny to be as bad as possible. Especially if there's a 5 player top-tier to the draft, as Minny being a bottom 2 or 3 team puts the #5 pick as an option as well. Otherwise the Warriors option option to get a top-5 pick is for Minny to get #4 in the lottery (and the odds of that are pretty even for any bottom 6 or 7 team).

It also wouldn't be that bad if Minny keeps the pick after finishing near the bottom of the league as a major turnaround next season could be tough.

Major turn arounds are tough period. The Wolves are historically a bad team. If they tanked on purpose now during a condensed season the team isn't going to go from worst team in the NBA to playoffs. Not with the roster they have now. The got the 1st pick this year and they are worse than the year before. Outside of Cade, all the other prospects play the same position in which they are already invested in.
If they want to tank let them tank. It would be funny if 3 teams jumped them tho in the lottery if that were the case

S/O to Cole Anthony with the buzzer beater. Minny had a 20 pt lead and an 8 pt lead with like a minute left.

I'm surprised their offense is that bad.

Russell and Beasley can light up the scoreboard. Of course KAT being out is hurting their offense overall.

If they get a top 3 player, they could be good enough not to be in the 2022 NBA Draft lottery.

They will still have a 2022 1st round draft pick, regardless, no? If so, I'll take what they can give at this point, as it's looking likely they'll nab the top-3 2021 pick. It's a matter of packaging that 2022 pick and any assets for trades or adding another young, promising talent to the team. The latter is a bit scary / lost hope with Myers and Co.'s track record the last couple years, post-Jerry West.

But the 2022 draft may not be as strong and the Wolves could be better next season and the 2022 pick might be around #10 rather than #4-7 in 2021.

Well for any team the probability for a top 3 pick is at most 40% so you have at least 60% that they do not get a top 3 pick. And 60 is 1.5 times 40.

What are the odds for each team in the Draft Lottery?
The changes implemented for 2020 will result in the following odds for teams starting with the reverse order of regular season record.

Team > Odds at No. 1 Pick

Team 1 > 14.0%
Team 2 > 14.0%
Team 3 >14.0%
Team 4 > 12.5%
Team 5 > 10.5%
Team 6 > 9.0%
Team 7 > 7.5%
Team 8 > 6.0%
Team 9 > 4.5%
Team 10 > 3.0%
Team 11 > 2.0%
Team 12 > 1.5%
Team 13 > 1.0%
Team 14 > 0.5%

As it stands (Still early, I know), Minny will battle it out with Detroit, Washington, and perhaps Houston for the top draft pick. If the trend is for these 4 teams to crack the top-3 picks, we obviously want Minny out of top-3 and take BPA at #4 (Or if we're scouting for someone specifically).

Yeah but what are the cumulative odds for the Wolves to get the #1, #2 or #3 pick?

It's 14% to get the #1. But it's probably higher to get the #2 or #3 if Minnesota ends up one of the bottom 3 teams.

Where it got shady was when the Lakers got like 3 consecutive #2 picks in a row and they were not even the top 3 worst records in some of those years.

They also had a top 3 or 4 pick protected pick in one of those years so getting #2 allowed them to draft at #2 again and all those #2 picks eventually were traded for assets leading up to AD.
