I never get why people want to knock Klay after he suffered his career changing injury playing superlatively even with a dodgy hamstring trying to win a title for GSW. He is obviously one of the all time Warriors greats.

I choose to remember that Klay, and hope that he can lift in games that count in the post season; he played pretty well in the finals series they won last season as I recall.

That said he should take a discount for his next contract, the organisation has shown great loyalty to him, including re-signing him for full money after injury and paying him a large amount of money for two and a half seasons when he couldn’t play at all with absolutely no complaint.

Klay has made maybe the best comeback ever amongst players who had a torn achilles.

And on top of that he had a torn ACL as well.

Among the best. KD recovered very well. And moving forward, i think players will probably continue to recover well with better sports science.

His recovery has been amazing, and I don't think that the fan base is giving him his due. The team acknowledged before this season began that Klay basically took the summer off after 2 brutal years of rehab. As a result, he started this season slowly.

Look at his numbers in 2023, after he got back into game shape: 24 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.3 apg, .8 spg. 43% shooting from 3. .6 TS%. Those are very good numbers, and pretty much best his career avgs and exceed or match some of his best years. People are missing how good Klay has been offensively in the 2nd half. yeah, his defense has slipped, but he's still playing at elite SG level.

I see that as an indication of his desire and motivation to continue to be great. I don’t think he’ll get a max, but he’s signalling his intentions to play in long into a new contract committed to being a great splash brother.

Even Steph plays better D than he was 5-10 years ago.

Look at Klay’s defense in Game 1. Mentally zoned out. Not boxing out his man. I don’t even expect him to keep his man in front of him anymore, but at least box out your man when the shot is up.

More times than not he is like that this season defensively.

He should be taking a lower % of the cap now instead of asking for more (33% cap right now).

35% cap is for 1A stars on a championship team.

He is more like a 20-25% cap player moving forward, if his team were to contend for a championship.

Haven't seen him say that, I did see some terrible clickbait title on twitter where Klay was quoted... not saying that, actually saying:

“I’m seeking a championship,” Thompson said. “Everything else after that will play itself out.”

I did see a Woj claim about it, but nothing from Klay directly. If that is true, Klay is going to be in for a rude awakening. His defense is a negative now.

I think his plan is to conserve energy on the defensive end and put his effort into the offensive end.

Franchise killer if true.

Steph sacrificed money early.
Wiggs just sacrificed money on his extension.
Hopefully dray also sacrafices.

Poole went for the bag, but can't blame him since it's his first big one. It's on Myers for offering it.

I have klay behind steph, dray, wiggs, and loon with regard to importance.

He has that "I'm leaving nothing on the table, I'm not sacrificing for anyone" mentality.

He's in for a rude awakening...

At his current usage rate and defensive prowess he's around an 18-20m/year player (about where Jerami Grant and Aaron Gordon are). If I were to earmark one player that Lacob + co. are looking to give a huge paycut to, it would be Klay. He's not getting the max. He will be lucky to get a 3 year deal without a team option.

Weird timing for someone to bring this up (or make this up as the case may be.) He makes $43M next year and they have all next season to work out an extension if they want to. A lot can happen between now and the end of next season.

Gordon and Grant are going to get much more than 18-20M per year.

Please stop with that Steph sacrificed $ narrative. Go back and read the news if you didn't or have forgotten about it.

Many thought the extension was a bad risk given his health at the time. Even among diehard Warriors fans.

He got secured $ without hitting FA, at a price and contract length that many thought was a bad gamble.

He didn't sacrifice anything.

He got as much as he could, given his health, as an extension, having security before hitting FA after 1 more season.

Potentially, but they are currently making that much. I'm only talking about references today, not to contracts that don't yet exist.

"Bad risk"? I'm not sure any reasonable fan saw it that way. Curry had recurring ankle injuries that hurt his value in negotiating an extension, but I think the general consensus was that without those injuries he was worth much more. In other words, it was a fair value contract given the risk assumed by GSW.
