Re: Case for Keith Smart:
I would love to see an emphasis on player development. Way too many lottery picks have been dumped for basically nothing. We especially need an assistant coach with cred to work with our big men(man).

Re: Case for Keith Smart:
Riley is really stupid thinking just because he's the leader in ft % this yr. That's all of a sudden that he's gonna get Derrick Rose aggression and start getting to the line more. Sorry Riley you can't be as dumb as u look. That's not Curry's game and his ankles are constantly beatup. So there is no way he's gonna try to attempt 10 fts a game. Why do u think Curry always throws up those floaters because maybe he's scared of getting hammered and getting to the line

You have to look into the Andris Biedrins effect. How well did he do without Andris and how well did the team do without Wright and without Andris. Biedrins sunk everyone that he played major minutes with.
As for Smarts coaching...
Assist are easy shots and they typically happen when a defense is broken down. Warriors are great at this because they traditionally have so much offensive talent that 1 simple mistake = an easy basket. This is why the Warriors lead the NBA in assist. But they lack so much discipline on defense that they often lead the NBA in easy shots given up. This year only the 17 win Timberwolves were worse.
1 Boston
2 Chicago
3 Portland
4 Orlando
5 Miami
6 Milwaukee.....
24 Toronto
25 Phoenix
26 Washington
27 Detroit
28 Cleveland
29 Golden State
30 Minnesota

Re: Case for Keith Smart:
Smart is a good coach. He really started looking like he was ready to coach in the NBA towards the end of the season. we have to remember this is his first time as a head coach and I think he did good considering the circumstances.
End of the year:
Better rotations
A lot more pick and roll
Better team D
As all of us, we hated his rotations, but really, look what he had to work with. With all this said, if we can replace him with a great coach with a proven track record in the NBA, do it. If not, Smart should get another year. He seemed to really start getting a grasp of how to get this team to play at a high level and had to adjust his coaching style to get it. Now that he knows everyone's strengths and weaknesses and has a whole off-season to derive a plan, I would like to see what he could do with at least one more year.
Nobody expected playoffs this year, us and expert analysts all expect playoffs next year. Why change the coaching when were on the right track?

Re: Case for Keith Smart:
Oh yeah, not even Doc Rivers could turn this team into a defensive powerhouse. You have to have those type of players to do that. Can we be better defensively, yes, but our strength with this lineup will always be on offense. We don't need to be the #1 defensive team, we just have to find a better balance. That should be easy to address not in coaching, but in free agency, trade, and draft.

A healthy yr from Udoh, Lou and Lee could be a big improvement in games won for next yr

Smart is not a first-time head coach, he's failed before.

Being interim head coach for the pre-Lebron James Caveliers really shouldn't really count. Lucas was fired after going 8-34 and Smart finished 9-31. You can spin it to say he succeeded in keeping them bad enough to win the lottery and James.

Re: Case for Keith Smart:
If they woulda liked him they woulda kept him - but yeah, coaches with bad records get fired. My only point there was addressing the point that Keith Smart is a first-time head coach, which he is not. Just cause your first go around is bad, you can't erase that. Just like if someone's first go around is really good, you don't want to ignore that. Winning games when you get the opportunity means something.
I don't want Keith Smart to be the HC here, and never have. Though I wish he would have proved me wrong. But that doesn't have much to do with his time in Cleveland.
If we could have had someone like Byron Scott, I would have done that. And in absence of a good coach being available last summer I woulda preferred to let Nellie ride it out - I'm absolutely convinced that the team would have a better record and that Curry would be further along, making the team a more desirable destination for the Jerry Sloans, Phil Jacksons or even Rick Adelman's of the world.
