Bulls fan here. We regularly get linked to this guy, and every time I watch him or watch tape on him I think he looks good. Wnat am I missing? Why does Kerr dislike him? How much of it is fair and how much of it is unfair?

Imagine a bigger lavine without a jumpshot, no handle, and much less efficient (with all the same weaknesses), but wants to iso like he's the first option while jimmy and steph are on the floor. Highlights can make him look great.

Hey there, happy to discuss with you. I was poking around that Kuminga thread on your board last night
This video posted a few threads back gives you the rundown:

Basically it comes down to that Kuminga does a good job when he is following the team's plan. But he loses focus at times or he just decides to go off script and do his own thing with iso-ball. The big problem there is that he is very inefficient at it and has become a ballstopper. His 1st 3 seasons he had a nearly 60% TS, then last year 53.5 and this year 52.6. Something changed last year where he decided he was going to add some Kobe stuff into his bag and it just isn't working despite his best efforts -- back to the basket fadeaway type stuff that is considered inefficient in the modern NBA unless you're a top end superstar.
Essentially he is his own worst enemy. When he follows the team concept and does rebounding, put backs, hard cuts etc. he is a nice athletic role player. When he stops doing that and decides he wants to show everyone he is an iso star, he kills you. And he thinks he should get a lot of playing time, and when he doesn't he pouts.
What I expect to happen is he will go to a new team and struggle with iso just the same. He might have some big nights against smaller teams/teams without a shot blocker that get you excited. But put length on him and he really struggles 1v1. Eventually he will have to accept that he's not a star, and then he can become a plus player. Unfortunately it can't happen here, but it could happen somewhere else. I think he is a reasonable gamble if you are giving up very little, but only for a team that does not care about winning at all. A perfect tank commander as he eventually could produce upside.

I hope your opinions represent those of the Bulls organization and other NBA teams.

Most here seem to dislike the guy but when he plays consistent substantial minutes he produces. Watch some of the playoff games vs Minnesota. He guarded well and he was our second best player with Steph out. His critics will say that “we didn’t win any of those games” but with Steph out and Jimmy injured we never had a chance anyway.
