Klay for a young 3rd their player and a washed up guy with a bad contract. Klay is a bad contract so we sort of have to take a bad contract in return or package Klay and a bunch of 1st round picks for a player that is worth what Klay is being paid.

Korver never was a good defender. Klay is not the defender that he was.
Korver shot open shots better.
Korver did not shoot shots as contested as some of the shots that Klay takes.

Game 6 Klay failed to show up vs the Lakers.
I don’t know that Korver ever had any level like game 6 Klay but in some year Korver did seem to be the go to guy on the Hawks.

Prime Korver vs current Klay, who is better for one playoff series?

Klay Thompson is not the same player he was.
Warriors need to move forward.
It will be a mistake if they give him a big contract and a mistake if he will be a starter again next year, even more it will be a mistake if Warriors plan to have him as second option again.

Korver was an extremely efficient 3 point shooter but he never got close to the shooting volume that Klay shot this year.

What happens to the Warriors if Klay passes on half of his shots? A few 24 second violations, some better shots and some worse shots.

Not a bug, its a feature.. a guy who's hitting nearly 50% of his 3s is someone that's going to be a focal point of opposing defenses, and make it easier on everyone around him. That's Klay's #1 selling point right now - not even his own offense is more important. But, unlike Klay, 75% of Korver's shots that year were 3s, which means he understood that if he wasn't shooting a 3, move the damn ball. And not by dribbling it

All that said, everyone's so damn quick to pour dirt on Klay's effectiveness grave, like he's still not better than the majority of SGs because of his shot. What's say instead of finding a replacement that's an elite enough shooter to open lanes and also has a good floor game, we work around the limitations and find ways to have him touch the ball less? Assume that Curry/Klay/Poole/Wiggins/Dray/Looney/Moody are our top 7 rotation players.. who should be on the very bottom in terms of touches/time holding the ball?

I agree with you except I do not put Moody in that group and I prefer Ty Jerome over Moody on offense and prefer Lamb over Moody as a forward and as an all around player and I put Kuminga above Moody for potential because Kuminga does more good upside things even if Moody makes less mistakes than Kuminga.

Klay as an off ball guy is great. Klay as an on ball guy is not and that's what we saw too much of in the play offs.

I dont see touches and offensive pecking order as the same. But as far as touches go:

Steph
Dray
Wiggs
Poole
Klay
Loon
Moody

It's almost like we didn't see just last season when the Warriors were the best team in the NBA before Klay came back from injury.

The way some of you talk about Klay, you'd think you have a shrine of him next to the home. The dude played like absolute garbage in the Lakers series and you're worried about others shooting. He shot, and sold the **** the team. Literally a week ago.

Never mentioned offensive pecking order, its very different than touches.. but the issue is simple, as you've shown: Klay on-ball is not a winning thing, never has been. Its only shown flashes, and those flashes are entirely because of his play off-ball. The worst thing that can happen to Klay - and what happened in the Lakers series - is if the opposing team doesnt sell out to stop Klay from shooting, paired with him not shooting well... everything needs to be built on the foundation of him playing well off-ball, and the team acknowledging that. For some reason when Klay struggles, they seem to want him shooting more and frequently its on-ball. Just makes little sense as an offensive strategy, and Kerr needs to find a way to fix that. Its not hard to come up with the idea, probably harder to get players to buy in, but still.. its his job

Who is the 2nd option / 1st option when Curry sits.

I am happy with Poole, Klay and Wiggins as the 3rd, 4th and 5th best scorers on our team but who is number 2?

I'm willing to bet this line of thinking happens more with fans than in organizations

The players will tell you who is the #2 option, all that matters it that Kerr listens. And it can change game to game, quarter to quarter even

It probably a lot more subtle for the players than someone saying I'm the no 2 option pass me the ball. But it's more so who am I looking for and who should we setup plays for to get going. And how do we optimize the scheme around getting that guy shots. The players and Kerr told us Klay is still that guy, which is why he gets so many shots. The problem is that we don't have the guys around him to get him quality shots, because they aren't very versatile scorers who can create their own.

Some of the same people dragging Klay are talking up swooping in and getting Jaylen Brown.

They don't like that Klay got a $44 million salary for next year but they're eager to get a player who's going to be expecting a 5-year $300 million deal.

Celtics got to the ECF, one round further than the Warriors. But Brown didn't tag along, judging by his numbers in the series.

Giving jb a 50+m contract would scare the hell out of me.

Do the math again, the annual average value will be closer to $60 million.

Same for Tatum.

Those are numbers that only the Celtics can offer--if they do give him that extension this summer, he can't be traded for a year. So it's not really an immediate concern.

Tbf Klay always had slow starts on the first 2 months of the season

Return to Golden State Warriors
