P.S. you have 30 games to put up big numbers or you're dead to most of us. And don't even think about getting injured or I'm giving up faster than you can get an X Ray.

I'm only giving him 10 games. If he's not averaging 30ppg immediately, I'll be calling for a trade, and sack the front office as well.

In fact I think I'm fed up already.

Here are his high school junior season highlights:

Friendly reminder that he didn't play his senior season in HS, instead reclassifying and going to the GLeague.

Some things I love, and some things i have big question marks around for Kuminga.

Like
1. Obvious athleticism.
2. Strength.
3. Good shooting form, no obvious hitches.
4. Right handed, lefties hurt my eyes to watch and are just inferior people in general.
5. Highlight slam dunking.

Questions
1. Handles. Looks shaky here, bounces the ball up high and seems to lose full control at times.
2. Hunger. He seems calm on court all the time, is there a fire in there? How good does he really want to be?
3. Bball IQ. I’m scarred from the Mimbo experiment. I can’t have players with a rock for a brain playing for us again, it physically hurts me to view. Does JK have the smarts for Warriors ball?

My favorite thing is that he played his senior high school season in what is probably the 3rd toughest pro league in the world against fully developed adults and played well.

Wish those were his Gleague highlights. :D

I did enjoy that one highlight of him in the Gleague where he bullies Poole out of the lane for the easy lay in.

Guy learned 4 languages by the time he was 18, he can probably learn a lot of plays no problem. I know, BBIQ isn't exactly the same thing but he's not dumb as a rock. By all accounts he picked up a lot of bad habits in the Ignite system (like at 1:05 in the video above he gets a little separation on his defender only to shoot a jumper just inside the 3 point line) so there should be a process to break those down and rebuild him...but it will take time. In general I want to see him, in the beginning, doing a lot of cutting and screening and less shooting. He's a load to handle moving towards the rim and his hands look good.

I definitely see Kuminga spending some time in Kerr's "Jordan Bell doghouse" after he windmill dunks at the end of a 30 point blowout lol

That's always annoyed me with Kerr. It's the most pointless thing to be angry over. Curry gonna shimmy at you when he's down 10, up 10, or up 30 as well for example, but obviously he can't say **** to him.

Maybe Kerr being pissed at dumbass Bell for more things than just the windmill dunk, and that was the breaking point?

I see quite a lot of tools in his arsenal already. He can handle, his shooting form looks okay, he does have the (at least occasional) eye for his team mates.

I think that he could excel in a simple role quite quickly. He has the talent though to do it all and that will take a while to do at a higher level of competition (if he ever manages to put it all together).

He’s really good at using his body in the lane and finishing. He has some unstoppable spin moves where he just bullies dudes.

No….but he’s also not ready imo.

My plan (Which no one cares about) is for the young rookies to be on a prove system for getting minutes.

I want Wiseman and Kuminga to do the defensive and rebounding stuff, as well as screen setting and moving the ball. I wouldn’t give them any minutes if they can’t simplify those areas first.

I'll say a similar thing about Kuminga that I said about Wiseman, and that is: make the game easy for them and put them in limited, clearly defined roles. Now, I overestimated Wiseman's defensive readiness but on offense, we just didn't make it easy enough for him.

Next season, Wiseman should defend the paint, battle for rebounds, run in transition, roll the basket and be ready to receive passes around the rim. Take the occasional wide open 3 – no dribbles and no hesitation, though. That's what should earn him minutes. Add to that game at a later point.

For Kuminga, it's also quite simple. Defend with high energy every second on the floor, push the ball in transition, and make yourself useful without the ball – be it cuts, rolls or spacing in the corners. Rinse and repeat. Since I understand the impulse to test your limits as a Rookie, do that in garbage time or in case you're down in Santa Cruz.

If he is asked to do that and can execute it, there's no reason he can't see minutes. He's an NBA-level athlete with ideal size for a combo forward and physically mature enough to battle with NBA players. Players like him have an easy path to minutes if they play with energy on defense and within themselves on offense.

I think he’ll be ready this year to play the role that Oubre should have had. Defensive energy off the bench with lots of cutting and the occasional corner 3.

Long term he gives me Shawn Marion vibes.

Kuminga almost certainly wouldn’t do much worse than Kelly overall. Maybe, but that’s a low bar.
